If you clear the cmos you are just loading the defalt bios settings but not solving the problem.
In this case you dont have to clear the cmos but instead replace the cmos battery.

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.
http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules

Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source.

Power down the system and disconnect the power cord.
Wear an anti-static wrist strap to avoid electrostatic discharge damage to the Asus motherboard or CMOS chip or other sensitive components.

Remove the cover and locate the CMOS coin cell battery and remove it from the system by gently pushing on the retaining clip and popping the battery out although on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

Discharge the CMOS chip by leaving the battery out of the system for up to an hour, depending upon the particular chip and motherboard combination.

Replace the battery and replace the cover on the system. Connect the power cord and boot the computer.

Save changes if prompted by the BIOS for system memory, drives detected, and other settings, and set the date and time if prompted at this time, or alternately set the date and time when the operating system finishes loading.
If your computer does not have a CMOS battery or you're unable to find it you'll need to do a hard reset on the CMOS using a jumper or dip switch on the motherboard.Information on finding these can be found through your computer or motherboard documentation.
or you might set failsafe or optimised defaults
Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaultsor load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

How to remove bios password

Hi JM,
On the motherboard, there are jumpers to reset the board, but you have to do it while the power is off. you can go HERE and put in your system info, which may help you find out how to do this or to reset the password without jumping the system. I found on another site the following:
"If the user can boot the Acer, he/she may be able to reset the BIOSpassword using Acer eSettings Management.
  • Click the Start button
  • Click the All Programs menu item
  • Click the Empowering Technologymenu item
  • Click the Acer eSettings Managementmenu item
  • Once inside Acer eSettings Management, click the Securitybutton.
Acer refuses to assist customers with BIOS password issues. The only option they discuss involves sending the laptop to them and paying a $100 fee."
I hope this is helpful to you

Should i use my new acer 5760 on mains power when possible

It depends upon how much time you run your laptop on battery power, you can keep an eye on the battery charge level when you connect it to mains power. You do not need to keep it on mains power all the time, only when the battery level drops to a low level and needs charging.
The laptop will warn you when it is low on battery power.

Acer laptop was given to me needs password bypass, can not find BIOS battery or link

When you boot up to the log in screen type in administrator as user to log in if you cant log in

during the boot up process you will see on the screen for a short amount of time press a certain key to enter set up press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS scroll down to set user password or supervisor password you can change or remove your password from there hope this helps

also

The most common way that we know on how to reset or clear the BIOS password is to physically remove the power from the computer by disconnecting the power plug and then removing the Cmos battery for 30 minutes from the motherboard. Another way is to reset the clear CMOS jumper on the motherboard itself. Both of the 2 methods mentioned works because most motherboards use a battery to sustain the BIOS/CMOS settings for the motherboards PROM chip. So by cutting off cmos the battery power, the BIOS/CMOS settings will be erased. Hope this helps

Low battery warning message on boot up

I'll give you the info for the cmos battery but afterwards observe any other issues with your notebook. Your notebook is not new anymore and may need other servicing besides a new cmos battery.

It should be housed driectly undeneath you notebook on a panel you can remove that houses the ram.

If you still cant find it, you may have to physicaly take apart the unit. I would search under the keyboard and all four corners of the motherboard and center. Just in case.

Let me know how it goes.

P.s: Be very careful If you are not use to opening up notebooks then I suggest taking unit to a professional for them to replace the cmos battery.

Break bios password in acer 2420 travelmate laptop

remove the cover which has your power button and covers the LCD cables. Remove the keyboard and flip it over, being careful to not pull too hard on the cable. There's 2 small triangular silver connection pads beside the keyboard connector on the main board - connect them together and power on your computer (flat screwdriver works fine). Press the f2 key - you'll find it doesn't prompt you for a password. You can lift off the connections now. Go to exit and save changes, and you're password free.

MY PC HAS BOOTING PROBLEM

Hi bridey28, when you replaced the cmos battery & the bios did not maintain the correct time than the cmos is not at fault. More likely its your power supply. The cmos receives its power (Recharge) from the power supply. An average cmos battery should last for 5 years. The fact that you attempt to power up the PC & you have to wait, points to a power supply problem. Not a bios problem.
Bios corruption is rare, unless you have tried to flash the bios & it failed. Replace the power supply before attempting flashing the bios. Every manufacture warns against flashing the bios. Only flash the bios if your 100% sure that it will correct a bios malfunction. If the issue presist after replacing the power supply, Intel has instructions of (How to flash the bios) on their site.
Here are the instruction from Intel for your MB model number.
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/5519/ENG/BIOS%20Update%20Readme.pdf

You'll need this link to download the bios file;

Good luck bridey28!
Need more info, post here.
