Same here. Pocket Media Drive Pd0000 (120gb). I used it to store my pics & docs. Took it out, put it back in and... not formatted. I really need some help here: a bit of my life was stored on that drive. When I bought the PC I downgraded from Vista to XP almost immediately and all worked fine. Now, out of the blue, 100GB of my life are being take away from me... :(

What personal media drive will fit the HP m 1190n media bay. Will any fit or are they part number specific? Thank you

Not sure what you mean by personal media player.

1) If its an Ipod or any MP3 player, you should be able to connect any via a USB cable, or directly plugged in.

2) if you mean CD or DVD drive/player like the one that came with it, they're generic, any with the correct interface (IDE or SATA) Though I think SATA in this case.

Here's a URL with the full specification of your system to help:-

http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/data_sheet/pj467aa.htm

If you mean the "personal media bay" listed here, I think were back to a generice CD/DVD drive.

New hard drive which I'm trying to install in HP M8400f I have taken off the side panel but how does the new hard drive install?

There will be a 3.5" bay with screws holes that the hard drive will go into. (Usually two metal columns in the front of the machine)
First, Make sure the computer is turned off. There is potential for harm to yourself and the machine if you leave it on.
Place the drive in the bay and screw it in. Connect the large sata cable for the power connect the small sata cable for the data
make sure the data cable is also connected to the motherboard
Put the side panel back on and boot up the machine. You will probably need to format the drive in order to use it.

Media Drive not detected

The device may be looking for a certain drive letter. Remove all other "removable" devices. Go to the device manager and remove the personal drive, reboot the computer and try installing the personal drive again.

well it is possible that it is corrupted.

but try these steps first

plug it to another port.
download firmware for the device from the device website.
if that work its great

if not then format it. just to let u know by formatting you will loose all the data inside.

How can i format my hp desktop??

Well there are a couple different solutions. If you have another hard drive replace it with your other one and make the one that you want to format the secondary hard drive. Then after you boot the computer, all you gotta do is go to my computer and which ever drive the hard drive is set up on you can right click on the right drive. Go to where it says format and click on it and then follow the instructions.

You can also format the hard drive if you got a windows disk. Just put the disk in your cd-rom and restart the computer and then go through the setup process. You will get to a point where it will ask you if you wanna keep the files the same or do you wanna format the hard drive. There are two options for fomatting: There is a quick format or a full format. If you wanna totally wipe everything off the hard drive make sure you do the full format. It only takes a little while longer than the quick format process, so you are just better wiping it totally clean and then reboot windows on the hard drive when it is done formatting......
