You can download a linux distrobution and boot from that cd by inserting the cd and holding down the C key. At least you can do something with your laptop then. If you can get your hands on a mac OSX cd you could boot to that as well using hte same procedure..
Click here to download the ubuntu CD

Try holding down the alt(option) key when starting up it should give you a list of startup options, it sounds like you dont have a astartup disk (an operating system) installed.

My Macbook pro turns on but then gets stuck at the Apple logo with the loading gear and never finishes loading.

See if you can start your Mac in safe mode:

Shut down your Mac and wait 10 seconds.
  1. Press the power button.
  2. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. You should press the Shift key as soon as possible after you hear the startup tone, but not before.
  3. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and progress indicator (spinning gear).
To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally without holding down any keys during startup.

If you can boot in safe mode, you have something on board your computer that's interfering with startup. If you've recently installed software, system extensions or 3rd party preference panels (Adobe and Microsoft stuff is notorious), try to disable or de-install it. If you can't get booted in safe mode, you may have a hardware or memory problem that might require technical repair. Repost your progress.

Apple macbook air won't turn on

Does the Apple logo or the Pinwheel show on the screen?

There is a problem with you OSX installation. Please boot from the Recovery partition (hold Cmd+R during the startup chime), and use Startup Disk to choose the correct hard drive to boot from.
You can also restore from a backup, and not lose your data here as well.

My MacBook Pro is stuck on the grey start up screen with the apple logo and a spinning circle. Sometimes it gets to a probationary circle with the spinning circle.

Unfortunately, this sounds like a problem with your hard drive/ logic board. To Fix This You Will Need To Go To The Apple Store And They Will Most Likely Have To Replace Or Repair It. the Process Takes About 2 Days - 1 Week (Just To Set Expectations.) :(

Lost install disk for Mac book pro My 13" Mac book

You will need some install disks to even begin working on your issue.
Your options:
  • Find someone with the same model MacBook Pro and borrow the disks.
  • Buy a copy of Leopard (10.5) or Snow Leopard (10.6) and use them. If you are going to buy a set you might as well update to Snow Leopard (10.6)
  • Check eBay for install disks but make sure they are for the same model MacBook Pro.
  • Contact an Apple service center and purchase a replacement set of install disks.
Once you have a install CD, I would recommend backing up your system by making a disk image of the hard drive to an external drive. Then doing a clean install and then using the Migration Assistant to restore your user files to the clean install on your hard drive.

CANNOT LOAD MACBOOK. TAKES FOREVER TO GET PAST THE APPLE LOGO, THEN WON'T EVEN GET TO THE POINT WHERE IT ASKS FOR PASSWORD

Insert your Leopard OS disc and startup your mac while holding down the C key to have it startup using the OS on the disk. When it's loaded, DONT do the install, but go to the desktop menu and launch Disk Utilities and do a disk repair and permissions repair... you should see a good improvement on startup

Have you tried going to the apple symbol and selecting restart yet?

You might have installed updates that have not finished installing.

Goto the apple symbol. Go to software updates, let that run, and download anything that comes up. Restart. Do this step over and over until there are no more updates.
