SOURCE: Adapter goes off when i connect Zyxel B-5000 ODU

if you go to start then run and then type in that box cmd. Another page should open that has a black backround with white text. This is what DOS looks like. If you type in there ipconfig and no 192.168.0. If you don't see any 192.whatvever come up then I'm sorry to say it's your router. This happened to me recently. If not there it could be something simple like the ethernet cable, but I do think it's the router

SOURCE: connecting using wireless

I don't believe Zyxel supports only Zyxel products. Finally, after analyzing the problem between the zyxel and the router, I found a solution that worked and allowed me to network both wired and wireless connections here at home. Set your router to auto-dhcp settings. Clone the MAC address of your computer. After this is done, put OFF first the router but make sure that the cable from the router WAN port is attached to the modem already. Then, put ON the zyxel and wait until it is fully functioning (2 lighted LED lights) before you switch ON the modem. Let both units (router and zyxel modem)synchronize first about a minute or so. Then connect/put ON your computers.

I found the above procedure to do it step by step so as to avoid conflict signals during synchronization which seems to be causing the non-internet connection.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: installing wireless router

I got a zyxel wireless router and was able to plug it into my eircom connection without much hassle.

Step1 - configure the wireless router.

This involves connecting the ethernet cable from the zyxel to your computer. Once your ethernet cable is connected to your pc, you can setup the router by opening your favourite browser and typing in this http://192.168.1.1

That will open a "welcome to zyxel setup" page and you need to enter in a password to get in...check the documentation that came with the zyxel but I think the default is

username: admin
pass: 1234

STEP 2

Once you get past the login stage, you are effectively connected to the zyxel control panel where you can configure your wireless and broadband settings. I used the wizard which steps you througn each step....including setting a nickname for your wireless router and the security phrase.

On the advanced settings page, here are the settings for eircom (under the broadband->network option):

Username: eircom
Password:
broadband1
Encapsulation: PPPoE
Multiplexing:
LLC Based
VPI: 8
VCI:
35
Primary DNS: 213.94.190.194 *
Secondary DNS: 213.94.190.236 *

* I didn't need to set those...I simply selected "detect IP address automatically".

I hope that helps others. I bought a second hand zyxel on ebay and it came this morning without a manual, so I stumbled my way through it with the help of google. My zyxel was a p-600 so I'm not sure if the control panel will vary with other models...the key thing is using http://192.168.1.1 in your browser, with your ethernet cable attached between your router and computer, to "get into" the router in the first place, once there, you should be able to walk through the setup without too much grief.

This is my first wireless router, so I can't say whether they make great routers or not - I've nothing to compare it to - but, it does exactly what it says on the tin for me.

cheers

Gus

How to retrieve password from wireless access point router zyxel -570u

Initial Set-Up
Plug your wireless router into the cable connection in your wall. Plug the connection cord into the "WAN" port on the router. Plug the router's power source into the wall and turn the router on. Connect your wireless access point to your router by pushing one end of an Ethernet cord into the WAP. Push the other end of the Ethernet cord into the "LAN" port on the router. The WAP connects your wireless devices to your router.
Connect your laptop or computer to the WAP. Click the "Start" button on your computer and then click "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and then select "Network and Sharing Center." The "Network and Sharing Center" window opens.
Click "Set up a wireless router or access point." Click the "Next" button.
Follow the prompts to create a wireless pass phrase or security key. Write the key down in a safe location to ensure access later, if required.

How do i accesses my router's configuration page, and how do i find out it's username and password? I have a Lxair b-3000.

If you forgot your username and password to any wireless router, the normal procedure is to do a factory reset. This means it will set the router back to the way it was the day you bought it. Warning: this will forget all the configuration you have done and you will need to reconfigure. If you don't know how to reconfigure then I don't recommend this.

To do this there is a RESET button on the side of the router. Hold it for 10 seconds or until one of the LED lights turns red. Release the reset button and if the SYS LED light begins to blink the defaults have been restored and ZyAir will restart.

If this doesn't work you have a second option

Turn off the ZyXel ZyAir B-3000, then while holding the RESET button turn the ZyAir back on. Continue holding the RESET button. The SYS Led light will begin to flicker and blink rapidly for 20 seconds. Release the RESET button and the ZyAir will restart. Wait for it to restart.

The factory password for the ZyAir B-3000 is 1234

Click here http://192.168.1.2 and type in the 1234 password and click LOGIN. You will probably see a screen to change your password. I recommend you do this.

You will need to reconfigure the router

As I said before change the password from 1234 to something else, plus If there is no security after the factory reset I would read the manual (see below) and setup at WPA or WPA-PSK security on the wireless router (I do not recommend WEP security it is too easy to crack).

Forgot password to network

Unfortunately by the very nature and purpose of wireless security it is not possible to retrieve your security key if forgotten or removed from your client. The easiest thing to do is to create a new security on your Zyxel and have your latop match that key.

You can follow a PDF for this access point here on how to do this:

Sometimes wireles goes down unexpectly

OK often it's the XP Zero Configuration service, try disabling that and it may be better... also get the latest driver updates... Often just to disable and re-enable the wifi adapter sometimes in network connections, brings it back without a reboot too.
