Question about IBM ThinkPad T20 2647 Notebook

Switch on (resume) by keyboard

Hello, my IBM T20 2647 has broken display. So i have it connected to a external display and external keyboard. So I would like not to open every time its own broken display to power on. Is possible to power the notebook on by external keyboard? I guess it could be possible by the changing BIOS, because in current version (1.09) it is not possible to set up waking by keyboard.
Thank you!

    Thanks!

How to use the function (Fn) keys on the keyboard - ThinkPad T40, T40p, T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p

Switching the display output location.
Switch between the computer display and an external monitor. If an external monitor is attached, the computer output is displayed in the following three patterns by turns:
  • External monitor (CRT display)
  • Computer display and external monitor (LCD + CRT display)
  • Computer display (LCD)
Notes:
  • For any operating system other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, no additional procedure is needed. Just press Fn+F7.
  • This function is not supported if different desktop images are displayed on the computer display and the external monitor (the Extend desktop function).
  • This function does not work while a DVD movie or a video clip is playing.
To enable this function in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, the following procedure is needed:
  1. When you log on to Windows 2000 and Windows XP for the first time, press Fn + F7 and select a display-switching function in the Initial setup window. Since in Windows 2000 and Windows XP multiple users can log on to a single operating system by using different user IDs, each user needs to select the function in the initial setup window when logging on for the first time.
  2. If the Fn + F7 key combination have been assigned to a presentation scheme function, start Presentation Director, and change the settings.

Connect broken laptop screen to external monitor

Suggestion- on my toshiba fn-f5 switches display modes, but to remove display connectors, you may have messed up your keyboard ribbon cable connection. it probably has a small sliding lock to hold it in place- if the lock isn't tight, your keyboard may not be recognized, which could mess up your display. Also, make sure your battery is charged and/or your power supply to your laptop is connected. hope this helps!

Can i connect a presario v3500 laptop to an external momitor. @I think the display inverter is gone and i need to get some files off the lap top for work.

Yes, connect the external monitor to the port it corresponds on the laptop, usually the blue port. When you boot the computer hit the FN key located on the bottom right hand side of your keyboard and the LCD/CRT key i believe this will be the F4 key located on the top part of your keyboard this should activate the external monitor.

When you connect a data projector or a monitor to the video output connector on the laptop you can toggle the display in various configuration by press and hold the blue Fn key and then press the F7 key (once or a couple of times as required) this key has a blue symbol of a pair of monitors.
Press it once the LCD will switch off and the display will switch to the external video output.
Press it again and the display will be on both the LCD and the external video output.
Press it again and the display will be only on the LCD.

IBM thinkpad T41 video problem

Connect your laptop to an external monitor, you will need to press the Fn + one of the Function keys that control switching the video to the external video port and the LCD screen.
If the video on the external monitor is perfect then the video chip is OK and the fault is either a faulty LCD or LCD connectors on the motherboard is not making proper electrical contact. You can pull apart the laptop and reseat these connectors, there are usually two connectors.

The easiest is to connect a standard CRT monitor to the external video port. Enable this from the laptop using the function key. One of the functions keys should have what looks like the outline of a standard monitor on it. Using the CTRL key and that function key will turn on that video port.
