Re: updated firmware now connected access internet on...

Hi, there is nothing to worry..... all ya have to do is , ya need to try to connect with the unsecured wireless connection in order to check the functionality of the wirelees part. If it allows ya to connect, then ya need to log into the wless routers configuration page and go into the security option and choose the security--WEP(64 or 128 BIT)and make a note of the key which gets generated in the key coulmns, any one key- preferably the first key and save the settings. n when ya' try to connect with wless computer it will ask ya the security key , plz enter the same key on yor wless comp- the same key which ya ve noted down. "confirm the key"- same key. and it will show ya a staus "wless is now connected".

Re: updated firmware now connected access internet on...

It must be something to do with your firewall not allowing a connection, it should have to be allowed as it thinks the router is trying to attack your pc. You may find it connects if you dissable your firewall programme, if so you know it's not a router problem

As you evaluate my advice and suggestions, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

• I did not diagnose your problem and am therefore only able to evaluate what you tell me. For example, if you ask me a fuse location, that doesn't mean that I can tell you the reason why the fuse blew.
• A thorough diagnostic approach involves the use of technical equipment, such as voltage meters. scanning equipment and other sophisticated devices.
• Lastly, fixing one problem can very easily reveal a problem with something that you might consider unrelated. If that happens, you might want to view me as being incompetent but I must rely on what you do or do not tell me.

Subject: Connecting to the Internet via a router

Customer's exact description: I tried to sync my WRT120N router to my laptop and it worked fine at first but then all of the sudden it said i was connected but i have no internet access and now no other devices will

Discussion: I'm assuming that you are running a recent version of Microsoft Windows such as XP, Vista or 7. This will be a three (3) phase solution. It is imperative that each step be followed in order.

First Step: Let's make certain that your operating system is ready to accept your router. Click on the following link and Microsoft will analyze your system and correct any deficiencies. Microsoft FREE Fixit Site.

Second Step:

Make certain that your router is up-to-date.

Updates are regularly posted on the manufacturer's site to fix issues you encountered while attempting to use their device. The following will guide you on how to keep your device updated and working properly.

These are the common reasons why you need to do an upgrade:

• Dropping or intermittent connection
• Fix the bugs and known issues with the current firmware or driver version
• Basic Troubleshooting did not work

NOTE: For basic troubleshooting tips in wirelessly connecting to your router, please refer to your user manual.

Firmware updates are required especially if you start experiencing connection problems within your local network. An updated firmware also fixes the bugs of its previous version as well as providing new functionalities for the device. However, this should only be done after doing some basic troubleshooting that did not work. Click on the following for Linksys updates: FREE UPDATES

NOTE: For future reference: Updating the router's firmware is not recommended if there are no connectivity issues.

A driver update for your adapter is necessary in order to enhance the wireless performance and functionality of your device. This is recommended especially if the adapter is not working properly after you updated the router or the computer itself. A corrupted driver will cause your adapter to stop working.

QUICK TIP: For Ethernet and wireless adapters, you need to download drivers while for devices such as routers, gateways and network access storage, you need to download the firmware.

Third Step: Connecting to the Internet using a Router

Choose a convenient location to begin installing your router, such as an open floor space or table. This does not need to be the permanent location of the router. For wireless routers, it may be necessary to re-position the unit after installing it as the signals may not reach all areas needed.

• Unplug the power to your Internet modem.
• Power down your computer(s).
• Plug the power in to your router.
• Connect your Internet modem to the router. The cable plugs into the router jack named "WAN" or "Internet". Turn on your Modem.
• Connect one computer to the router. Even if the router is a wireless model, connect this first computer to the router via a network cable.
• Turn on the computer.
• From the computer connected to the router, open your web browser. Enter the router's address,, and press Enter on your keyboard.
• Click Login. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.

To configure the router to connect to the Internet, you must enter information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) into the "Connection Type" section in the left-hand column under the "Internet WAN" heading of the router's configuration page. If using DSL Internet, you may need to enter the PPPoE username and password. Likewise, if you have been issued a static IP address by your provider, the static IP fields (including network mask and gateway) must also must be set in the router.

Since this is a wireless router, change the network name (referred to as SSID). While the router comes to you with a network name set at the factory, you may want to use something more familiar for your network. Read Changing the Router's Wireless Channel and SSID -- or some other similiar language in your user guide --for a description of this process.

Verify that this computer can connect to the Internet properly. Open a new web browser and visit a few Internet sites such as or

Finally, configure additional network security features as desired to guard your systems against Internet attackers.

That's the three step program to solve this particular problem.

If you are still having problems, follow the steps outlined in the Windows operating instructions. Unfortunately, most individuals buy computers with the software installed by the manufacturer and don't receive the full manual.

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on TOOLS
5. Click on SETUP
7. Click on NEXT
9. Click on NEXT
10. Click on NEXT [this is not a typo]
12. Click on FINISH

You should now be connected.

All the best,

The issue I see is that the lights all are lighting up. I'd bet it is caused by some type of short or like a power outage or surge (remember surge protectors basically do nothing at all). If I were to guess, that's it. Other than that, I would flash the firmware back to original if it lets me.

Playstation 3 disconnecting from wireless gaming

Linksys loves to ship their routers with out-dated firmware. If you haven't updated the firmware of your router, that would be the first thing I'd do. From what I've read about routers and PS3, a lot of routers had trouble when they came out but had firmware updates to resolve the problem.

You'll need to go to the below link and select your version to get firmware downloads specific to your Model router and version number. The version number is listed on the bottom of your router next to the model.

Be sure to read up on how to update the firmware and be sure you only update the firmware from a computer connected via WIRED connection to the router. Doing it wirelessly will cause disconnection from the router mid update and will cause your router to become a paper-weight!

The above link is a good website to find out a lot of information about Linksys routers and how to secure/update/configure them.

I have a linksys wrt150n wireless router

Do you see the wireless light blinking? IF yes then there are a few things you should try.
1. Factory reset. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds then reconfigure your router and see if it resolves the issue
2. Firmware update. Download the firmware update and then access you router and click on firmware update and browse for the update you have downloaded(you have to extract it first just in case its zipped) Hopefully that will do the trick.

If none of the these work then its a hardware fault and you will have to get your router serviced!

Short connection and then no connection

This is a problem with the firmware of the router, so the best way to resolve this is to flash or update the firmware of this router then after that reset the router by pressing the reset button for about 15 seconds so the firmware update will take effect....
