The built in microphone doesn't work (if there is a built in mic) I've tried recovering the laptop to the original settings but no difference.
Try this link: http://www.ehow.com/how_6790890_toshiba-built_in-mic-won_t-work.html.
Good luck!

have u only used messenger to test your mic? try other applications like a voice recorder, and see if yer mic will pick up there. if it does, then mabey u have the wrong version of messenger like if u have 32 bit or 64 bit version of windows. if it doesnt work, then you have a driver error and u can go into start>control panel>device manager>and other computers are different, but i'd go into imaging devices cuz my cam and mic are a full set of drivers together but see if you have a microphone on there. if not, then look at wot u can see that has any possible relation to a microphone, and select "update driver software" and it'll go online for ya and see if the drivers are up to date. and if its not the driver, then its your mic itself, and hopefully your under warranty, or if not, then just pay some money and get it fixed.
SOURCE: hi,
Normally a problem with the mic isn't driver related unless you have no audio as well. What program are you using that the mic is not working with? More than one? Will the mic work in one program and not the other? If its not working in any of them, you may want to make sure the correct device is selected to record from in windows.
1. Start>all programs> accessories > entertainment > volume control
2. In the "master volume" panel select options > properties
3. in the mixer device drop down select the one that says input somewhere in the title
4. The check boxes below should now show you your options of devices to record with. Select the laptops internal mic and try using it again.
If that doesn't work there's most likely an issue with the hardware and you would need to replace the mic if possible.
Testimonial: "great to ur support gud job thanks"
that means there is a problem in system
try system restore :) or recover it
The drivers for the hardware don't exist for windows 8. You need to format. turn on holding the 0 key. follow steps to set to factory defaults, save your pictures and documents first cause this will erase them.
Using
a microphone with computer
To use any microphone with your
computer you will need to enable it in control panel. The following
instructions are for Windows XP but are broadly similar for Vista
and Win7
Click START, CONTROL PANEL, SOUNDS
& AUDIO DEVICES
Click VOICE
Now click the VOLUME button in the
SOUND RECORDING BOX. Here you need to SELECT microphone as an input source for
recording (as opposed to un-checking mute in the playback
controls). If your webcam/ microphone is built in to the laptop there should also be a volume control called 'Internal MIC' - disable it by placing a check-mark in the mute box.
NOTE if microphone (or internal MIC) is not listed in the
2 sets of volume controls click OPTIONS, PROPERTIES on the tool-bar and
place a check against microphone in the list entitled
'show the following volume controls' and then click OK.
That should be it but it is possible you may also need to turn off the microphone in the software for your web-cam.
