Subwoofer problem in ONKYO HTS 580

My ONKYO HTS 570 system has an issue with over vibrations from subwoofer. Lately the subwoofer produces totally different low quality sound whenever a low frequency movie scene is played. Earlier it was not so; its as if the subwoofer loses control.
The thumping effect is replaced by some rattling. When playing test tone, the subwoofer sounds ok but the front right speaker does not produce any sound, but on actual playback, there is sound coming from this speaker.

SOURCE: no surround sound

So your saying that you have no rear channel. Some recivers use a single stereo output ic for both sides on the rear speakers. you could have a defect with this IC . Anther thing Im sure you check3ed the obvious ie : the switch is on suround sound? If there is a front to rear fader is it in the middle? Good Luck

SOURCE: Onkyo HT-SR800 the surround speakers are not blasting

I had the same problem and fixed it by manually setting the surround speakers changing the Level Cal to +12dB. You will immediately notice a significant increase in volume and may need to back down on the dB's. What a diffence it makes!

SOURCE: I have an Onkyo Hts

you might want to switch the speakers that youre using. e.g front left put it to front right and vice versa to isolate if the speaker has the issue or the amplifier terminal.
if the left speaker works on the other terminal then its a terminal issue.

SOURCE: garbled / feedback sounds from powered subwoofer

The surround processing portion of the unit has a problem. In either stereo or direct mode, the digital procesing is bypassed. This could be just the surround processing IC, but that IC may not be available as a separate part. I would suggest that you bring this unit to an authorized Onkyo service center for an estimate.

I have bought an ONKYO HTS-6300 from the USA (120V) and tried using it in India (220V) using a step down voltage converter. The receiver shows the red light but unit does not get on. It keeps on making a...

Hello
You have to use a step down transformer with this set and not a converter. The AC household voltage in Inda is 220VAC. Your set is designed to work on 120VAC. Therefore a 220VAC==>120VAC step-down transformer is needed to feed it. The onkyo has transformer inside, and it should get 120VAC; atleast 5AMPS current capacity. AN inverter cannot synchronised with this set. You can either buy it from Inidan electronics spare part market, of can be winded by expereiced transformer winders. Never give any inverter to this set, as some Onkyo models will have Torroid transformer inside, and it will take a tremendous amount of current at start-up, and make either your Onkyo of your converter to get damaged. OK.

I bought an onkyo hts-5300 it has grave reviews for sound. Yet it is not producing what i feel it should, what is the ideal db setting for the speakers for crisp sound and deep theatre style bass

"Grave" reviews??

If you set it up as specified in the manual it will be optimized. As far as volume settings while listening go, that is subjective and entirely up to you, your speakers and your neighors.

Can i hook my home theater system to my tv

Actually, if you want to hear TV-related audio, you should hook the source(s) of it (cable, dvd, blu-ray) to compatible inputs on your HTS. Think of the TV as an image producer, not a sound source.

Buzzing/vibration noise from ONYKO TX-SR506 unit

If the unit is under warranty, DO NOT open it up. Bring it in for an exchange or warranty service. Explain that the unit makes noise during use and it will be serviced. This could be as simple as a bad connection in the power supply area and you are hearing oscillations or it could be a defective power transformer. Either case will be covered under warranty so there should be no charge to you.

Keep us posted.

Onkyo subwoofer not working

I fixed my subwoofer. The resistor at R16 (right next to the fuse) was the fried component. I removed it and replaced it with a 13K ohm 5 watt metal oxide resistor (from Mouser Electronics if not available locally). Works fine now. I got the solution and the circuit schematic from an audio hobbiest at diyAudio.com. This is, evidently, a fairly common problem.
