Yes it will heat up quick, and when it doese the heat can cause big damages on the hardware. Replace the fan before doing anything else!

Good luck to

Overheating motherbord

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

My laptop toshiba satellite A300 , restarts and reboots when using internet and playing games , and also when power adapter is plugged in it and when any other process runs on like playing music and video...

The fan is blocked up and is not able to keep the cpu cold, if it over heats your computer will shut down to prevent damage to itself then restart, to stop this from rebooting you will need to take it apart and remove the CPU thermal module that is attached to the fan and clean it, by doing this help the laptop and keep it running smoothly. My asus m50sa over heats and locks up when im play games all fans r working proprely i think i need a video card

You may need to upgrade your video card. On my desktop at home, we would play graphically demanding games on it pretty often. While we stayed within the system requirements, our computer would often overheat, despite the fact that all of its fans were working properly. If you push the video card too hard and too often, it will cause the computer to get very, very hot. Upgrading the video card and adding another fan solved the problem, although I don't know how to upgrade your video card on a laptop.

Whenever I play video or work on my computer for an extended period of time there is a loud and very obnoxious noise that is intermittent. I believe it might be the fan

It is most likely the fan. When doing things like watching flash video (e.g. YouTube or Hulu), it uses a lot of CPU power, thus your fan needs to spin in order to keep your computer from overheating.

Insufficient information, but try this for starters:

Make sure the laptop sits on a hard surface and the fan vents are not covered/clogged.

1) Run windows only on a fully charged battery and see if it overheats
2) If not, run media player only, and look for the same

If it overheats in either step, you have a hardware/software problem.

Hardware problem could be that the fan has failed completely and needs to be replaced.

Software problem could be incorrect fan settings, although I do not think you can turn the fan OFF on a laptop.

IF the laptop overheats in Step 1, I would definitely suspect a hardware problem. In that case, run the laptop but do NOT log into windows. Go into the BIOS (check fan settings in there, if there are any).. leave it running in BIOS and see if it overheats then.

My 4 year old Acer Aspire 5520 notebook shuts off on me at random time periods. I try keeping it proped up and keeping it cool but that doesnt even seen to help. It doesnt over heat but just decides to...

Have you cleaned the cpu fan? The computer has a cpu fan that can get dirty over time. It's job is to keep the cpu cool. When the cpu overheats, the computer senses it and shuts it down immediately, to prevent permanent damage to the cpu. You can clean it by blowing compressed air into it, and should do that every few months, as routine maintenance. This is the most common thing that shuts a laptop down, other problems involve repair, so try this first. I bough a $7 three inch fan at Walmart to help cool the laptop, and when I run it, I never have it shut down on me, but once in awhile it will without the fan, especially when I play dvds or videos, which really work th' heck out of the cpu. There are also commercial laptop cooling devices, but my little fan works just fine. The other thing that could be happening is some problem with windows, which is something I couldn't begin to guess. Hope it's just a bit too much heat.

My laptop is falling apart

Hi I believe your fan and heatsink are clogged with dust. However I dont recomend fixing this yourself unless you are very experienced as you could do more harm than good. I do recomend getting this sorted very quickly and not using it any more until its sorted as dust is one of the biggest killers of pc's. I'm sorry theres no easy fix for this and hope you resolve this soon.
Hope this helps

My Acer Notebook

It sounds like you are having heat issues.

Make sure when you use it the fan is not blocked.

The fan is probably not getting enough air. You need to have a technician free the fan and heat sinks of lint and debris.

If this does not help then you Motherboard and processor would most likely need to be replaced having been damaged by the heat.
