I have a Sony SXRD KDS-R50XBR1...this problem was a green flashing light that turn to red and was flashing 5 times with a pause....I changed the large fan and lamp since I had the back off the tv.....now I have a green light that turns red and flashes 3 times and pauses....did I so something wrong?

there are 2 more fans, 1 is in the middle of the base housing, 2 screws, should be clean. the other is on the left behind the circuit board in a black housing. This fan when i removed it was CAKED with dust and there is no way it could have had any effect on air circulation. the fan is inclosed and you have to take out the whole circuit board to get to it.

It is the lamp ballast.

Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.

4 blinks is a fan error, check and see if the fans are clogged with dirt. Unplug the set then take the back off and get some canned air and blow the fans out.

It is clear symptoms of weak lamp in TV, replace lamp to correct that problem.
Lamp replacement is easy and written in user manual of TV.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety.
