Question about Gateway GT4010 (RBGT4010) PC Desktop

4 Answers

I have a Gateway GT4010. When I push the power button, the hard drive light will come on for about 4 sec. and then blink out and the machine will not enter into the bios to start the boot up process. I checked the power supply and it is good.

Yea i have this same computer with the same problem. but there is a way so you can get it started. all i do is go to the wall where the computer is plugged in and unplug it then replug it in a 100 times. then it will get started. you get used to it after a while. just when your doing it dont push the power button when computer goes up (i find it take longer if you do that) i have this same computer and most people say that when they plug it in it starts up automatic but if it doesn't then push the power button 1 time, also for some reason on mine its starting to go up with no problems now. i think its the way the power travels through the motherbord.

Try taking the side off and near your checksum battery (looks like a coin) there should be 3 peices of metal sticking up with a peice of plastic over two of them take the plastic off and change it to the other side this will reset your checksum then put it back and reboot

Gateway gt4010, wont power on.

The fan turning off will be the cause of the PC shutting down.
This could be caused by a faulty fan or bad connection to motherboard.
1. try reseating the fans power plug on the motherboard
2. if that doesn't help, try replacing with new fan.
3. if that doesn't work then most likely motherboard problem

My Gateway GT4010 PC keeps rebooting itself before

Try replacing the hard drive cable. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you may have bad RAM, bad motherboard or a bad power supply. Sounds like a hardware issue and not software. try booting your computer in safe mode since it doesn't load all the device drivers. If it still reboots then you'll have to keep swapping parts and booting up the computer to isolate the problem.

Gateway gt motherboard failure

Yeah that's right. Change/replace the power supply. Yet, you have to test the power supply's conditions if it still works alright. since you are suspecting both motherboard and HDD first. If yellow light comes and no action to the whole machine then that must be something in the motherboard. Before you finally follow your decision to change the power supply, check the motherboard. There are capacitors and examine if it didn't bloat. If it does, just take out the capacitors with exact microfarad and voltage specs or change the whole board. And granting though that the supply is bad, there must be some electric signals that have caused to the mother board which will eventually, at the end of the day, you encounter the same problem with it.

Bad motherboard or power supply which fries motherboard

Gateway hasn't had any recalls on it that I know of. maybe it is not the mother board. It might be the hard drive. Hard drives can do that aswell. When I fix a computer the first thing I check is the hard drive. A little bit of advice with computers. Start with the small things first and work Your way up to the big stuff. Hope that helps.

My pc will power on but not go into the bios to start the bootup

the above assumes IDE drives...

POST ( Power On Self Test ) will take place even with a faulty drive.. it will (should) warn that either no drives detected or drive is faulty.

Rather unplug all deviced not needed and leave only screen and keyboard.

Inside the machine unplug everything except you hard drive, unpleg DVD,CD,Stiffy drives.

Also if you have an onboard graphics on your motherboard then remove the grpahics card you have as well.

Also remove all but 1 of the RAM modules.

If the PC boots now gr8.. you may just have had a bad connection. Now reinsert the RAM modules you have removed. Then start the PC again.

If your PC doesnt boot you may have a faulty/damaged Power supply, motherboard or CPU

Keep plugging back all the components one by one untill they either all are back in and everything works ( bad connec5ion the cause then) or until you get to a point where you attach/plug something in and it doesnt boot...that component is your culprit. And remember it can be anything, from RAM to your mouse..

Gateway GT4010 Problem

This problem is video chip related. I have done alot of research on this and found that everyone has the same problem in some form or another. Your best bet is to junk the pc and get a different one, since the motherboard in the pc and the replacements you can get are all prone to the same failure. The best home remedy I have found is a hair dryer on the video chipset as mentioned in one of the above "fixes". Seems to work for a while, not permanent. You may need to repeat if your system goes down again. Also, when your system powers up and your screen looks more green than usual or different than it used to, just apply more heat and pressure. On another note, if anyone has a replacement for this case, GT4010, from a different manufacturer, please let me know. Hope this helps.
