Question about Projection Televisions

Hi there... When it is raining around our house in Elwood, we get signal outages on our LCD screen. I've checked the connections to the wall and everything is OK. But in the last two weeks we have had outages. We have an external antennae. Could it be the rain? The TV? The antennae?

If you are using a satellite dish, then yes the rain is the problem, especially noticeable with heavy downpours, common problem here in the uk.if you are using a standard tv aerial, its quite possible water is gaining entry to the connections on your aerial.picture breakup is usually associated with poor signal reception.you could try replacing the aerial with a high gain type, cheap as chips to buy,and should create a vast improvement.its not the tv...hope this helps and let me know how it goes.....steve

No Video or Sound after power outage

While it's certainly possible to fry the whole power supply or the DMD board, it's more likely that you've blown a capacitor. This same situation happened to my brother's TV after a power outage. I told him to unplug it for a half hour and that didn't help. He left it unplugged and when I finally got around to open it up the following week, I turned it on and worked. (I told him I fixed it).

Unfortunately the same thing happened after the next power outage so I opened it up and replaced two leaking capacitors by the power cord. It has yet to fail again after numerous power outages.

So first thing to try is leaving it unplugged for a few hours or even a day. Keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again. If it does, either you or someone else should open it up and check for leaking or blown capacitors.

I have a Philips 15" LCD HDTV with no picture, but sound. How can I get the picture back. I don't have any audio or video connected, nor do I want any connected. The Model # is 15PF5120.

Hi

KIndly check antenna/cable connections. Are they properly secured to the TV’s ANT75ω plug? If they are then :
• Check the TUNER MODE control for the correct tuner setting.
• Try running the Auto Program feature to find all available channels.
• Press the AV button on the remote to make sure the correct signal source is selected.
• If using an accessory device, be sure that it is functioning properly.
• If in PC Mode, a video signal MUST BE present or the TV will turn off.

If this does not work then reset to the original factory settings by performing the following steps:

  1. Press the MENU button on the remote control to see the onscreen menu.
  2. Press the CURSOR DOWN button to highlight the INSTALL menu, then press CURSOR RIGHT to enter.
  3. Press the CURSOR DOWN button repeatedly to highlight the FACTORY RESET control, then press CURSOR RIGHT to enter.
  4. Press CURSOR DOWN to select “YES” to reset the original factory settings.
  5. Press the MENU button repeatedly to clear the menu from the screen.
Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I have rca cables running thru the walls to my TV set over the fire wall. My TV received the pictures from a Directv HD-DVR and for some reason is loosing the signal, I do not know if is the distance the...

this sounds like it could be an issue with the drop located on the outside of the house where the signal come in from the pole. typically if the drop is old or weathered or if the cables inside the house are old the audio and visual with cut in and out. typically a good resolve without spending a lot of money is to call your tv provider and ask for a wire maintenance program and details should be under a 10 dollar charge per month. after setting up the wire maintenance ask if they can send a technician out to check the signal and the drop. this will save you the 45+$ an hour and after they find a solution you can cancel the wire maintenance and will no longer have to pay the additional fee's every month.
hope this fixya

Hi! i have an old Panasonic 32" tv ( around 8 years old ) it's the big one!. My problem is: the board on the back of the tv ( where we plug S video and component cable and other plug. Do not work...

Most likely the actual connectors have worn out on the tv, one signal line may poorly connected. Does the picture change if ou hook something up and jiggle the connection? If so see if you canfind a replacement board or set of sockets. Hope this helps. It is most likely a bad connection.

It sound to me like a defective light engine. If so this is a very expensive repair if you set not under warranty or a service contract. This could have been damaged by a power surge.

Video and Sound Going Out

Your problem could be the cable: A. A weak signal coming from the cable company B. A bad cable or connector within the house. For the above, call the cable company and ask them to check the signal levels on your block. And, remove the plate where the cable comes out of the wall and look for shorted or bad wiring that may cause a weak signal. Also, if you have another set in the house, connect it to the same cable outlet to see if it has similar audio blackouts. Your problem could be the tv set itself, as well. C. Go into the on-screen-display and make sure you are on stereo audio and NOT SAP. SAP settings are not to be used unless you are using the second language or audio program feature. D. The sound detector inside the set could be defective. Which would require service. So, the first thing to do is to determine exactly where the fault lies; inside the set or outside the set. Then attack the problem at hand. If the set is defective internally, I think you will need a tv tech who can diagnose the problem; it must be tested and measured to find out the exact part (this set has over 3,000 compnent parts inside).
