Hi and welcome to FixYa,

The best approach would be to measure resistance and voltage readings at critical components referencing a schematic diagram or a service manual. Pls try here or here.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Monitor light stays off. No power. On-off switch doesn't turn monitor on. Checked power cord and cord to computer. Both work with a substitute monitor.

You are infromign that checked VGA and power cables with a substitute monitor. Might be useful to chek your computer actually working with that substitute monitor.
Additionally, in most monitors, when turned on but not connected to the computer's video outlet, you get a message tinicating something like "NO SIGNAL", or in any vay, making you to know that your monitor is not connected.
If disconnected to computer but with power on you only get a black screen, you've got a defective monitor.
I'm not an electronic technician so can't suggest you what parts you should replace to rpair you monitor, so it you don't really have technical experience repairing monitors, you should take it to repair service.

Dell stuck in power safe mode

A blinking power light is not indicating power safe mode, it indicates a failure of the power supply board in the monitor. Here is a link to repair guides that show how to open and repair the power supply boards in the Dell E173 series of monitors;

Lcd-17v8 monitor power won't stay on. westinghouse monitor

If the monitor turns on and goes directly to sleep, or it powers on briefly and shows an image then goes black then the monitor is defective. The first is often an I/O panel issue inside of the monitor. The second is typically a lamp failure within the monitor.
A simple test would be to plug a different monitor into your computer or this monitor into another computer. If the monitor doesn't work on another computer or a different monitor works on the same computer then the monitor is the issue.
If the different monitor does not work on the same computer or this monitor does work on a different computer then something on the computer is to be suspected such as a driver issue or a faulty video card.
If you find the monitor is defective then you should dispose of it (assuming it is not under warranty) at a nearby recycling center and purchase a new monitor. I would suggest something by Acer, Samsung, Dell, HP, NEC, or Viewsonic. These brands cost a bit more, but have much better track records.

Try another monitor on your computer to make sure that your computer is booting up properly.

If your running into the same problem with a known good working monitor then the computer is the problem.

If the known working monitor turns on then you know the original monitor is bad.

No display on SyncMaster 920NW after reboot from power failure

Hello,

It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. Look in our monitor repair section for step by step repair guide for this model it should be the same power supply as the 930. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.
