This is mechanical problem of Take Up Reel section and system control chip doesn't get reel pulse and you see reinsert tape message (error message)

Repair of this mechanism is delicate work and prior experience does matter here. If you have camera repair knowledge and experience, you should check take-up reel section in camera mechanism.

Good Luck.

try rewinding the tape and play it from the beginning.if still the same, video heads may be dirty and needs to be clean.i recommend you use a dry head cleaning tape.after which reinsert tape and play it again.if issue persists use a diff tape with previous recordings.if still no go,use new tape and try recording on it,play it back and check.if still the same your unit will require service.thanks:) hope this help.

Trouble extracting tape and when you try to record, you get a message to reinsert tape with a indication of moisture present according to the manual. I tried to dry out the recorder with a fan but still...

I read on the internet about others that have had the same problem with their recorder and the fix was to sharply hit the recorder on the top three times..... I tried this remedy and it seems to have solved the problem for the time being..
I think that your technicians need to find a better solution to this problem or a brand other than Sony might be the solution!!! I'm sure that the problem will surface again and probably at a time when I'm trying to catch all the action on tape.

The screen that says reinsert the cassette.

Tht means the recording protector tab of the tape is on, check the tape, most or f the time there will be a plastic piece tht can be broken off if u need to prevent any thing from recording on it, try covering the hole with a piece of adhesive tape and try recording

Sony Handycam Digital 8: won't accept tape

I was having the exact same problem with my sony handycam. I actually came across this website looking for the answer and noticed many people having the same problem but there was no solution to it.

I just happened to go to the sony website and decided to watch the tutorial on setting the camera back to the factory settings. It actually fixed the problem! I don't know if this will work for everyone or even how long it will work, but I figured it was worth a try. Good luck!

Take the battery out and turn selection switch to camera and then turn it off. Put the battery back in and its working again.
if that doesn't work try
Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times.
