Hi There, this depends on what make and model your machine is, in general, faded in the middle means that the charge roller or corona unit is dirty or the paper separation roller/grid, stop your machine while the paper is halfway through, then look at the toner image on the drum, if that is light also, then the problem is with charge roller/grid, if the image on the drum is nice and dark then the problem is with your image separation roller/grid.
If you have trid a different toner cartridge, then I would first try a new drum (not sure if toner & drum are in same cartridge, some are so you will have to check that) If not that, then I would suggest the transfer roller bar would be my next suspect if the printer has a lot of copies done on it.
Most often on the PC940 this means your toner cartridge is getting low on toner. To prove this is the cause, just remove the toner cartridge and while keeping it relatively level, shake it side to side a few times. This will re-distribute the remaining toner in the cartridge. Re-install and make a copy. The black streak/faded copy should be much better. If so then I would go ahead and get a new cartridge on the way.
Thank You for using Fixya.

On your Canon PC 920, there is a recessed gray latch located on the left side of the machine towards the top front...press upwards on this latch to release the top part of copier (same as removing a misfeed or clearing a paper jam). The copier opens up.....now, located in the top unit, about center, is the drum / toner unit. It has a black plastic handle on it. Grasp this handle and pull towards you...slowly...until it is free of machine (support the rear of the unit with your other hand) Open new cartridge (unit) and install in reverse order (there should be instructions with the new cartridge) The copier has rails that the cartridge mounts on. Another note, before installing....gently shift the cartridge from side to side.....this distributes the toner evenly (again, covered in the installation instructions packed with the cartridge) There is a tab that needs to be removed to allow the toner to get where it needs to go for copying....attatched to this tab is a strip of plastic, pull all the way out. I have a PC 940...it uses the same cartridge.
Hi there make sure that it is not on toner saving mode in the driver then try taking out the toner cartridge and shaking it side to side then reinstall toner and test machine with fifty copies. If not any joy then replace the toner cartridge as 9 out of 10 of this sort of problems are toner cartridge. Is the toner cartridge an original or a refill one if refill change for a new original.
