Re: Not working

Has it worked since you received it? Can you hear/feel the drive starting or getting any power? Are any of the pins bent where the drive attatches to the case? Sounds like a power issue on the enclosure if your sure the drive is good. Try a different USB port/cable. Does the USB port work for other devices i.e.printer? Sounds like a returner. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim

The hard disk inside that Spire case has died - running the free space clean from CCleaner (a very intensive procedure) has been the death blow to an already sick disk.. Nothing more can be done to save it and the data on it. Replace it with a new one.

IDE hard drive in Bytecc ME-535U2 enclosure not recognized by OS

There is a couple of things that could be going on. The first thing to check is that the drive did not get bumped off its drive letter by another device. If that is the case you just the to assign it a new one. The link below will help you do this.

The other issue is the drive may have gotten disconnected improperly. I had the same problem with one of my drive on my XP system as well. It partly has something to do with the USB controller to my understanding. Alot of times if you plug it into another computer it will detect it and ask to run a scan to repair the drive. After this you should be able to access the drive on your XP system again. Note I have the best resolutes when I plugged the drive into my Vista system. So I would recommend trying to plug it into a Windows Vista or 7 computer to attempt the repair.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions.

Seagate 120 gig HD in Dynex enclosure not recognized by XP system

Ok, you didn't say if the drive had data or not? Anyway, if it is a drive with no data etc, you will first need to Initialize, & Format the drive before use. Is there any way you can connect it up to an "Internal" or "External" SATA port, & "See" if the drive is recognized, then at least you know the drive is OK.. Also try another USB port if available. If you know it is OK, then go to device manager and Uninstall the entire USB layer, reboot, it will re-install the USB again, with default settings, it NOW may be "Seen".

Hard Drive not mounting

Check the jumper on each hard-drive.

My guess is that the WD drive has the jumper in the "correct" position, for mounting inside an external case, while the other drives have their jumper set to an "incorrect" position.

Set the jumper to MA(ster), not to SL(ave), nor to C(able)S(elect).

I recently added a Seagate 500 GB external desktop drive to my Dell PC. It had only 18 GB on the C: drive, and I had gotten msgs that I was running out of disk storage. I installed the new drive thru...

I think I would run the setup application and see if it helps. You're relying on the Windows drivers for the drive and who knows how well they work.

1. Turn the computer off completely.
2. Disconnect the USB drive and any other USB devices (for the time being).
3. Turn the computer back on, put the installation disk in and follow the instructions. Don't connect the USB drive until you are asked! Having it connected before asked may not allow the installation process to work as it should.
4. When everything is installed, hook your other USB devices back up and see what happens.

If this doesn't work, go to the Seagate site and try out their external HD troubleshooter.

Hope that helps! Remember to rate the solutions!

CPU won't read it im running xp

Ok, here's some step by step instructions.

First is the light on the nexstar coming on when you plug it in, if so what colour? If not try using both USB connectors on the PC end to plug in, it's possible you're not getting enough power if the light is not on as many 2.5" hdd enclosures require 2 USB connections one for power and data and the other for additional power.

Next, if the light is on but no drive in my computer, right-click on my computer, then left-click manage, select disk management from the MCC window that pops up. If your Nexstar HDD shows up here, identify it on the bottom part of the window and report back what is said there.

If it is not there and the light is on, try a different USB port. If the light is not on or you tried the other ports and still no luck the enclosure itself may have failed.

Try moving the HDD into a new enclosure and try again. If this works, Great, if not then the HDD may be damaged and may need a pro to get your files back. If that is the case report back here with your progress and region and I will recommend an appropriate pro.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Cat this is your earlier problem reworded - I can see now that this is a dual device. If you can use it that way in Firewire mode leave it at that. However - is it possible that this is a 'switchable mode device and you have not discovered the secret of how to. If there is anything like a manual with this check it thoroughly or get into the makers tech support team

USB Connection Problems

You say have a SanMax HD-338-CB USB/Firewire External HD with a 160MB drive. You then say sometimes I have to reboot Windows XP pro 2 or 3 time before I see the drive using a USB 2.0 connection. Fire wire is a different system with a different connector style- so it should not be in a USB port or a USB connector should not be in a Firewire device. Get you device and connections sorted The desktop display simply puts up a device it will not differentiate which USB or Firewire
