1. Insert your pen drive in computer and don't take it out. 2. Place WinXP Cd in CD-Rom 3. Restart your Computer 4. When your computer prompts boot from Cd click any button 5. Wait for upto 5-10 minutes. 6. Now when format screen comes select your pen drive over there. 7. Now install winXP over to it. 8. Now it asks for format. 9. After formatting it copies the files, at that particular moment restart your computer. 10. Remove the Cd from CD-Rom and the pen drive from computer. 11. Now when your computer is restarted insert your pendrive and delete if there is any unneccessary file exists. 12. Now you'll feel that your Pendrive is in OK condition.

It depends if your pen drive has a manual cd with it or is it an automatic plug and play. If it has a cd than you should first install the driver from the cd that comes along with the pendrive Otherwise in automatic plug and play when you attach the pendrive in the usb port of your notebook the notebook will show a msg "new device detected". Now click the "My computer " icon ,where you can see a new drive appearing with your hard drive. copy the necessary data from our notebook and double click this new appearing drive and paste your data there (OR) after selecting the data right click on the data and go to "send to" option where a new menu will appear in which your pen drive will be appearing. click the option of your pendrive.
hope this solves your query.
if there is no security password or write protect switch (this would be a small switch on the side of the pen drive) then it may be your pc not allowing cut and paste transfer. Try right-clicking on the file you wish to move to the pen drive, click "copy" then right click the pen drive icon and click"paste" this would copy the file to the drive instead of moving it. Moving the file is effectively, copying it to the drive and deleting the origional and if the origional has password or other forms of increased security/priority the pc won't allow it to be deleted or moved. good luck.
if it has a USB port then u may use a pendrive and change the boot seq in BIOS to boot from USB drive
in the pendrive u must have all the WinXP OS install files...
use another PC having USB slot and a CD drive,
first make a pen drive bootable by formating it and copying the system files....(check what's the drive letter in which the pendrive is shown on MyComputer...it will be listed as "Removable Disk")
Note the drive letter say D: or E: or G: etc
then go to
Start / Run type
u will get a new black window
in the black window type
u will go to c:\>
it will take u to
so now it will look like this
format e: /s or G: /s or E: /s based on the drive letter that u noted earlier
use another PC to just copy all files form a WinXp install CD to that formated pen drive and use that to boot your above PC that does nto have CD rom drive to install the Win OS
