I am not completely sure what you are saying. But I am installing this new stereo in a 1994 Chevy Camaro. This new stereo is replacing an OEM factory am/fm cd player that had the cd player quit working.

Its not the select button, you must have the power off and hold the function button down for about 5 seconds, display will change and you will be able to navigate your way to the clock from there. Hope this helps.

Why does my KDC-258U say protect and won't do anything

Hi Nicholas,
This usually is an output problem.
  • There is a short in the unit, possibly the speakers.
  • Check all speakers connections to see if two wires are not touching each other, if possible check on both ends, at the receiver and at the speakers.
  • Try resetting the unit.
  • If nothing works, take it to a repair shop for further testing.
Here is a link to your receiver Manual of operation. Be sure to check out the Troubleshooting Section.
Good Luck!

DEH-P5800MP pioneer ...all things come up and operate except for sound out the speakers. Even the volume dial registers as well as the screen volume graphics.

Hi Michael,

We will start with the pdf manual.

Next you will check all the speaker connection's so they are biased +- +-. Ensure your ground is correct at the chassis of the receiver to the frame of the car.

Here is the manual from Manual Labs another look. Pioneer DEH P5200 Manual

There is a reset on the speaker output located in the manual. Perhaps your speaker impedance is above the receivers digital tolerance. Bench test the speakers with other in place of the working site. Most of all situations are oversights or happenings when closing up the job site.

Audio adjustments at your finger tips to check that by the book.

No sound, has power and all functions work, but no sound.

Ok this is whatb you need to do.1 are you using an external amp if you are you need to check the power at the amps b+ and turn-on leads.2If your speakers are getting ther power from the radios internall amplifier you will need to check your speakers and wires for shorts. This can be done by usuing a meter or by diconnecting the wires (speakers)one by one and see if your sound reeappears. The last step would be to put a test speaker on your speaker leads to verrify that the amp section in your radio has not been comprimised.

My pioneer deh-p840mp powers on and flips open, and seems to function fine with the exception of no sound going to all my door speakers and the bass to my subwoofers is a far sounding muffle even as I turn...

Un hook all your speakers that the deck is powering and hook them up one by one sounds like u have a shorted speaker or wire and the unit is going into protection. The best way to chk the speakers and wires is with an ohm meter . Check each speaker wire to ground and across the speaker and see iof you have any shorts. The next step woulk be to remove the unit and have it bench tested.

Deh1500 no sound

no mute button, but if there is a short in one of the speakers, wire touching, contacts touching metal, the radio will go in to protect, and you will loose all sound. best way to trouble shoot is to disconnect the speakers, and hook one good speaker to the radio, if you have sound, connect one speaker in the car at a time to the radio, until you find the bad one.
