Question about HP OfficeJet r40 InkJet Printer

OfficeJet R40 printer cable with a USB connection

I had to replace my PC and there is now no parallel port for the printer cable (only USB ports). Is there a cable that will allow me to connect my printer to my PC?

This is a great option. Although, I actually found this cable in town and it won't work. I need to have one end be a 25-pin male adapter and the other end be a USB connection.

Need this cable hp c6680-80003 to usb

You can find that cable here: Buy HP Hewlett Packard C6680 80003 C668080003

However, you will need a separate adapter to convert from parallel port to USB. That can be found on Amazon. I've added a link below.

I recently purchased a new pc hp2009m and the cord on my lexmark e250dn does not fit my pc how can i adapt please advise. Colin

This printer has three standard ports: bi-directional parallel, USB, and ethernet (RJ-45). Most likely your previous computer had a parallel port. The simplest solution is to get a USB cable (Male type A to Male type B - 6' or less in length is recommended.) Install the software on the computer then connect the cable to the port on the back of the printer and to the computer (the square end goes to the printer and the rectangle fits the computer). The USB port is in the same area on the left side of the back of the printer as the parallel port.

Alternatively you could get a network switch and connect the printer as a networked printer. The ethernet port is near the middle of the back of the printer.

http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=recommendedDownloads&locale=EN&productCode=LEXMARK_E250D&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=EN_US#1 has the software and drivers for support OS versions.

I hope this helps.

(Getting a bidirectional parallel to USB adapter is cludgy when you have a USB port available.)

USB to Parallel connection (Panasonic KX-P1121)

I would recommend buying a Printer parallel port connection (PCI to LTP1), install it into the system, and use the printer parallel cable.

Trying to connect from USB laptop to parallel printer

You can't have a double hook up to it,When the parallel port is used the usb port is disabled and when you use the usb port the parallel port is disable. This is done to prevent damage to the printer. You can network the laptop with the pc and print that way though

Printer is not working with my new a6742p pc

Yes. It should work fine, but there are a few IFs:

IF the printer is still good...you said it's an older printer. Also, does the printer have a USB port, or is it so old, it only has a parallel port? Some newer computers do not have serial or parallel ports.

IF you don't have a parallel port on the PC, and you have no USB port on the printer, you can purchase a parallel to USB adapter.

You also may have to go the manufacturer's web site to download the drivers for the printer.

IF there are no printer drivers for your newer Operating System, you are up the proverbial ******* creek. I have a hunch you are concerned about how to hook it up because of the above mentioned parallel - USB port issue. The adapter will fix that.

Good Luck!

Where to connect on computer

The printer will have one of two cables , either it is a USB cable , or an LPT cable

USB Cable Looks Like This:

The LPT Cable Looks Like This:

If it is the USB cable , it will connect to the back of your computer in a USB port, which looks like this:

It it is the LPT cable , it will connect to the back of your computer also:

HP Laser Jet 1320n series

The HP LaserJet 1320 has a USB port and a Parallel port.

The HP LaserJet 1320n has a USB port and an Ethernet port.

USB-to-Parallel converter cables, like this one, are designed to attach a parallel device to a computer's USB port.

But you need to do the opposite (attach a USB device to a computer's parallel port). A USB-to-Parallel converter cable will not do this.
