Question about Xerox Phaser 7700 Laser Printer

1 Answer

Phaser 7700 steaks on Magenta, sometimes yellow.

I just got this Phaser 7700 and it included brand new color and black toner and print cartridges.

I knew the Magenta was streaky, but I figured it was just toner or cartridges. Unfortunately, when I replaced both, the problem remains exactly the same.

I have also cleaned out the little transfer roller thing, after reading many troubleshooting tips, but the problem remains exactly the same.

I created a color bars image in Photoshop - pure Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (turns out the black wasn't pure black so it didn't use the black toner but the black works fine so no big deal.)

I print one page, and the Yellow, Black and Cyan all look good. Nice and filled in. The Magenta has diagonal banding across the Magenta area.

If I print several copies at once, the problem gets worse. The banding on the Magenta gets worse and the yellow starts streaking all over the page and onto other pages.

The fuser is low life and does need to be replaced, but I am not sure if this problem is being caused by the fuser. If it's going to cost me $1000 in parts to fix this thing, I won't keep it. But if you believe it's the fuser that IS causing the problem, I'll replace that.

Here's a scan of page 6 of a 6 page run of the same image:

Please let me know if you think the problem is fuser or something else.

Thank you!

Each color has its own laser. Use the cleaning wand in the front door to clean the lens covers for each color. You will need to remove the waste toner cartridge in front of the the slots to do this. If that does not cure the problem, you will need to replace the developer housings for the colors that are streaking. The manual can be downloaded at: www.lpscomputer.com/ec/Phaser_7700_Service_Manual.pdf

and parts purchased at: http://www.lpscomputer.com/p-3063-1-116-1115-00-developer-housing.aspx

The printer is not printing the color red whatsoever. More specifically, the color red is being replaced by the color yellow. The printer does not indicate any malfunction, and the cartridges have been...

I have worked/ serviced similar Laserjet Color Printer with same issue.
Actually, red color is formed by a mix of yellow and magenta toners. As the color is replaced by yellow it is clear that the problem is with the the magenta cartridge or most probably the mirrors which reflect laser beam get covered with dust and toner (which partially blocks the laser beams). Hence the image is not produced properly. This
needs professional hands for servicing and cleaning of the optics inside the printer. Note that first magenta goes off, followed by yellow, then cyan and lastly black. This is because of the mirrors placement inside the printer. Magenta is the last one and gets most of the dust and goes off first.

Rest assure that the printer requires ONLY CLEANING OF THE MIRRORS, which are inside the printer. Clean them yourself with dry n soft cloth (if you are familar with such tasks) or get it cleaned by any printer repair/ service professional. Please note that the mirrors, lenses and scanner assembly inside such printers is extremely complex and can get damaged very easily especially the mirrors.

Hope it would help. If you need any help in cleaning mirrors and lenses let me know
Good Luck!

I have an 6180mpf .I change the toner's magenta and yellow with refil and afterthat the machine has stops working. message remove the tape from yeloow, remove the tape from magenta and under the toners...

Uninstall all the toner cartridges with the printer off, reinstall the cartridges and power up the printer, perform an aligning test through the printer software, and make sure that the printer heads and cartridge inserts are clean.Drivers have to be in working order as well.

Colors are not printing the acutal color

It all depends on the meaning of 'not properly'.

Try creating a document with four different squares, or words, of these colours: yellow, magenta, cyan and black. If all of them print (albeit not with the correct shades) it is probably an ICM driver error. But my guess is that only one of those four colors will print badly, due to a defective color cartridge.
The OKI 5150 makes all perceivable colours using cyan, magenta, yellow and black toners, so if one of these malfunctions, the resulting colors will lack the required shade of, say, yellow, and will appear to be "wrong". The yellow colour itself, of course, would simply disappear (the "yellow" you use might actually be 95% yellow and 5% cyan; then the "yellow" square will be printed as a very light shade of cyan, while the other colors - say, 95% magenta and 5% yellow - will turn out almost exact).

Try with the color test and replace any failing cartridge; if all four (almost) pure colours do print incorrectly, it's unlikely to be a cartridge problem, and we'll have to dig deeper.

You have replaced the toner cartridge but you still have to replace the imaging unit which is the drom that the toner cartridge attaches to.
