Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

Samsung HLP4663W. Bulb doesn't light.

Bulb was shutting down, so I purchased a new bulb [in the assembly], installed it, but it won't light up. I can hear a fan inside, so I assume the color wheel is turning, but the bulb itself won't light up. On the front panel the LAMP green light flashes on and off, then the TV turns off. It cycles back on, then all three light [two green and one red] come on and flash. Any good ideas?

I just removed my new color wheel to make sure it was okay amd the wheel is a little hard to turn...should it just spin freely? will this cause my tv to not turn on? I need your help, please....My tv has been down for weeks. thanks, mike

okay....I have replaced the color wheel, bulb and ballast and my bulb will not come on....What next?

  • BarbarianInc May 11, 2010

I have replaced the ballast and still keeps starting and turning off and the bulb will not turn on.

Could the new color wheel be causing the problem? It worked great for three days and then the screen went black.

    Thanks,

    mike

He just stated that the ballast was replaced already. maybee theres an engine problem. the color wheel should not be hard to turn. the new wheel may have defective bearings id either take it apart and swap parts with the old wheel that are known good or if its under warranty best yet get it replaced with another unit.

id like to find a way to get a suitable hack thatd substitute my bulb in mine(maybee a few track lights?) anyone have any suggestions?

Recheck the tv projection lamp installation?Recheck the lamp door latch, see if it is proper closed and tightly closed of the lamp door?Hear any clicking noises, when the tv projection lamp tries to ignite up.If hearing constance clicking?Mean the tv board that call the Ballast board it is also dead, this Ballast board only job are to ignite the tv projection lamp only.Ballast board must have be replaced. If the tv have a colors wheel is it dead or damage and broken require changing,u will hear major humming, motor or grinding sound noises and alot of times the tv pictures flashes multiples colors on the tv screen or the tv pictures will have a black&white flashes of a background of white light within the tv pictures background.Selling defective tvs almost impossible to sell it for a decent or a good priced or it at all.If this tv u have less than 5 years old,tv it is still have alot of it life ahead of it,tv tube picture screen panel, will last u atleast another 10 years and have to be 8 hours tv whatching every day to dies this faster or could be last to 15 years,if tv less hours of watching every day.Should get priced quotes from many tvs repair shops and get it fixed max prices about $400-$500 dollars.New tv same model and sized or difference models too will cost u like $1,200-$1,500 dollars.

Replaced bulb but tv comes only comes on for about 10 to 15 seconds then shuts down and red light flashes

It sounds like you have a bad ballast board, or possibly the power supply going to the ballast bulb. I'm afraid that if you do not have the repair experience on solid state TV sets, you will need to contact and authorized Mitsubishi repair center. Good Luck

It could be the temp sensor going bad. This sensor sits on top of the metal housing which the bulb assembly slides into. The bulb assembly will have a hole on top and this is where the sensor is above. There is a small blue and white wire that plugs into it. If you pull the wire out and put a paper clip or wire in the coupling you will basically bypass the sensor connecting the blue and white wire. If your tv turns on then that is your problem. Its cheap too. Here were my symptoms..1] Turn tv on 2] Bulb would light up..(which eliminates the ballast) regular picture would show up (which eliminates the bulb and color wheel) 3] 30 seconds later tv would shut down with 3 flashing lights. After bypass the tv turned on as always and hasnt shut down yet. Always un plug tv first. Get the replacement part to avoid overheating and possible fire

My samsung HLP466W spontaneously turns off....bulb is just barely 1 yr old....any ideas for a fix?

more than likely the bulb has grown weak and is in need of replacement again the age has very little to do with the life of a bulb. sometimes a weak lamp shuts down the set I would try that first.

A lamp that is near failing can still look OK, the higher current draw will shut down the set. The ballast could have a component or components that are breaking down under load. One of the many PC boards, wiring, sensors, or color wheel could have a problem. An experienced servicer could save you time, money, and aggravation.
