Question about Sony VAIO PCV-RS520 PC Desktop

Invalid partition Hi, I dont really use forems but I guess this is my last resort, hoping someone could help me. I had Windows Vista Ultimate installed on my Comp. and wanted to switch bach to XP. When I finished installing XP one of my other drives with all my stuff on it doesnt want to work anymore unless I format it (WHICH I DO NOT WANNE DO). It shows as a healthy partition but I cant do anything with it. Then I thought I would install Vista back on because it might handle partitioning better but without luck. If there is hope for me could you please lend me a hand?

Im sorry you are having this problem, i too have done the same thing once on my hard drive, here is what you have to do, now that you have xp installed on the hard drive you now have to reinstall vista to a new folder and once its installed it will then allow you to dual boot vista/xp, this is exactly what i did so im on xp right now with a clean install of vista just hangin around

I need to restore my computer using the Function keys and do not remember which Function key(s) to use

If you are certain that there is a recovery partition with a factory default image then your user manual should include the instructions on how to access it.
HP normally uses a backup and recovery software rather than a recovery partition with a default image. This setup requires that you make restoration discs before using the computer in case something goes wrong.
Alternatively, you can keep restarting the computer and hit a different function key each time in an attempt to access a recovery program.
If you own a copy of Windows you can also just put in the disc and install Windows to your C: drive and over-write the existing installation.
As a last resort, you can order a set of recovery discs from HP's Customer Support.

Hello! I have an Acer M7720 desktop computer, with 2 flatscreens running along. Since the day I bought it, the computer has problems with starting up. Brought it to repair during warranty but they didn't...

It sounds like you have a corrupt registry... :(

Vista handles their registry fixes a bit differently than xp.
However, I found a nice Microsoft article to help me out.

I'm pretty sure it is easier to repair the registry with Vista and 7, make sure to back it up!

Oh, one last note --- In my case with XP, it was a lot easier to manuver registry files if the Hard Drive is hooked up to another computer.

Right, i just installed ubuntu, then overwrite my vista drive, i have a vista disk but i don't know how to overwrite the linux bootloader with vista. last time i tried this if failed.

To re-install Windows Vista please do the following:
Put the disc in and restart the computer
Boot from the disc
Do a full system install
Delete your partition [contains Ubuntu(Linux)]
and install.

I recently did this last week, went from Ubuntu back to windows 7, and currently I duel-boot both Operating Systems. I hope this helps!
Please don't forget to rate :), Thanks!

You have a virus that is blocking your administrator rights. Do a full scan of the computer using this software to rid. After the scan, reboot and all will be good.
(free trial - works great)

If you cannot even install programs, last resort is to restor computer to factory settings. This will erase everything you have on computer.

Are you using windows XP or Vista. I can walk you thru the restore if you let me know which Windows you have.

I Can Not See My [D:] drive Icon ....sec. HD

Did you just open the hard drive and install it out of the box? If that is what you did, then the computer its self will see the hardware but vista or any other operating system for that matter wont read it without a partition hence no drive letter....download a partition program like easius partition manager or partition commander and create your partition and windows will be able to see the drive. Once windows see's the drive then you have to format it! Once its formatted then your up and running. I hope this helps, comment back and let me know...thanks

Invalid Partition

Is this a physically separate drive that you are talking about, or just a partition of the same drive?

If this is all one physical drive, you may have already formatted it with the installation. Partitioning can be done to where you install the operating system in another location than your already stored data or another operating system, but that is dependent upon which options you selected when you installed the operating systems each time.

Try this, right click on Computer or My Computer, and select manage. Select disk management under storage. Find your partition or drive and right click and see if you can select - mark partition as active - or something of that sort. Then see if you can explore it.

Hope that helps

"error loading Operating system "

Try Windows repair:

Windows XP
- Turn system on press f12 "repeatedly"
- Select dvd/cdrom drive
- Boot to OS
- Windows will load some important setting.
- Run windows REPAIR

Windows Vista

-turn on system press F8
-select repair
-windows will load some important setting
-run windows repair

last option:
make the hdd a secondary hdd from another pc and do back-up your data.

Downside of this last option you need to do clean reinstall or check manufacturer if you do have IMAGE PARTITION.

Hopefully this will help..

Reinstall windows xp pro

How far through the setup does it get?
Have you done a full format on the HDD?
Does the HDD detect in the BIOS? Is it a confirmed working drive.
