Program columns are out of place

Program columns jumped from enclosed area{far left] onto the viewing screen. The area where they should be is now blank. The green start button has gone from bottom left to top left. The computer is getting progressively slower. Have done two different scans, no problems or viruses present.

Try opening cmd.exe (run as administrator), then type "sfc/scannow" . Your computer should then scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Hopefully your problem will be fixed up.

See if you can click and drag the start menu bar back to the bottom of your screen and then try to do the same for your program panel to attach it back to your start menu bar.

Also make sure your task bar is not locked by right clicking on it and seeing if there is a check next to it.

Software that allows the user to "capture" or copy a section of what appears on the screen

If you just want to capture a still image of what is on your computer screen, you can use a free image editing program like IRFANVIEW.
You can download this free program at the following link:

http://download.cnet.com/IrfanView/?tag=mncol;1

Just click on the underlined text above to get to the download page and then click on the green DOWNLOAD NOW button in the upper left hand corner.
Then follow the onscreen instructions to install this program on your computer.
Once the IRFANVIEW program is installed, start it up and click on the OPTIONS menu at the top of the screen.
Scroll down and select the CAPTURE/SCREENSHOT option.
For CAPTURE AREA, select the #5 option - CUSTOM RECTANGLE / REGION CAPTURE.
Now just click on the START button at the bottom of that screen.
This will start your screen capture. First place the mouse arrow in one corner of the screen image you wish to capture. Now just hold down your left mouse button and move the pointer to create a rectangular capture area around that image.
When you have enclosed the area of the screen image you wish to capture just click the left mouse button once. This will capture that area as an image which is now ready to save as a separate file.
Now click on the FILE option at the top of the screen and scroll down to the SAVE AS option in that list.
Choose a file name for the captured image and a location on your computer to save that file.
That's it. You have just captured and saved a screenshot image which you can open with any image viewing software. Just repeat the process to capture additional screen images.
Thank you for using FIXYA.
Good luck and take care.
Joe.

Dual screen wont work

Kevin,

1) You cannot plug a monitor into the VGA connector, on the back of the desktop computer, AND plug a second monitor into a DVI connector, on the back of a desktop computer.

In otherwords you can only plug ONE monitor into the motherboard.

[ The I/O area on the back of the desktop computer, is the Input/Output area. This rectangular area has connections for Input devices, and Output devices.

Examples such as a Mouse, Keyboard, (INPUT), VGA devices, (VGA monitor - Output), USB devices, audio devices, (Speakers - Output. Microphone is an Input device), and so on.

The I/O area has a rectangular metal shield. (Thin metal plate)

Connecting a device in the I/O area, is connecting it directly to the motherboard.

Example of a VGA connector, and VGA cable,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

Example of a DVI cable, and DVI connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

(There are several variations of DVI connectors.
Scroll down ]

To use dual monitors you need a graphics card also.
Graphics card with a VGA connector, or DVI connector. (Or both)

Monitor with VGA cable, plugs into the I/O area on the back of the desktop computer. (Plugs into the motherboard's graphic chipset)

The second monitor plugs into the graphics card's DVI connector, or VGA connector.

[ Just an example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1416091&CatId=3669

On the image of the graphics card on the left;
Go under it to the subheading - + 11 larger images and views.

There are 7 views shown. One is the carton the graphics card comes in. (View 2 from the left)

Going from the left side, count over to the 5th view. Left-click on the 5th view. Shows you the 'business end' of the graphics card.

Starting at the left side it is the HDMI connector, then VGA connector, then DVI connector.

Note*
YES, you can plug a VGA monitor, AND a DVI monitor, into this type of graphics card, and have Dual monitors ]

FIRST:
Computer on, Windows running; Put the Installation disk (CD) in the optical drive's tray. (CD/DVD drive)
Load ALL software.
Drivers, and 'Control Panel'.

Graphics card software loaded, close all windows, go back to your desktop screen. Turn the computer off normally.

Unplug the computer from power. Open the computer case.
FOLLOW Anti-Static Precautions.
(Don't know Anti-Static Precautions? Post back in a Comment)

Physically install the graphics card. Close the computer case.
Plug the VGA cable of the Primary monitor, into the VGA connector in the I/O area, on the back of the desktop computer.

Now plug the DVI cable of the Secondary monitor, into the DVI connector on the graphics card.

(The main monitor you use is the Primary monitor. The second monitor you are going to add, is the Secondary monitor )

Plug the computer into power. Both monitors plugged into power, turn them BOTH on.
Turn the computer on.

When Windows loads you will see a display on the Primary monitor.
Your desktop screen.

Now Right-click on an empty area of your desktop screen.
In the list at the bottom, Left-click on - Properties.

In the Display Properties window that comes up, left-click on the -
Settings tab.

You will see two rectangular icons. 1 and 2.
1 is the Primary monitor. 2 is the Secondary monitor.

Left-click on the Secondary monitor icon.
Go down towards the bottom/middle on the left.

Left-click in the empty square to the left of -
Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor

Go down to the bottom Right. Left-click on Apply.
Go down to the bottom Left. Left-click on OK.

Your desktop screen will now be on the secondary monitor.

When you open your internet browser, (Yahoo, or Google, or MSN, or Mozilla Firefox, etc), you have to DRAG the screen onto the secondary monitor.

(Let's use Yahoo for an example. Yahoo will be on your Primary monitor.
You need to drag Yahoo onto the Secondary monitor)

Which direction you drag, is up to which direction the two monitors are sitting, on your computer desk.

The way the monitors are sitting in Display Properties; the Primary monitor is on the Left. ( 1 )
The Secondary monitor ( 2 ) is on the Right.

This is the way the two monitors should sit on your computer desk.
(There is a way to switch them around, however)

On your Primary monitor, (Still using Yahoo as an example), go to the RIGHT side. See the blue frame going around the screen?

When you bring the mouse cursor ON the blue frame, it turns into a Double-Sided arrow.
It is difficult at first to keep the cursor as a double-sided arrow.

Move too far to the right, it turns into the usual pointed cursor.
Move too far to the left, and it turns into the usual pointed cursor.
have to keep it on the blue frame.

WHILE the mouse cursor is a Double-Sided arrow, left-click, and hold the left mouse button down. Now drag the screen to the Right.
(Move your mouse to the right)

Keep dragging until the Yahoo browser is on both monitors.

Different size monitors? The display will not be the same size, on both monitors.

[ I use an HP 2009m, 20-inch widescreen monitor, as a Primary monitor, and an RCA EN-V, 26 inch HDTV, as a Secondary monitor.

I have my desktop on the Primary monitor, and FixYa, (Firefox browser), on the Secondary monitor, right now ]

2001 jeep grand cherokee laredo, lights come one intermittently, horn came on unexpectedly and wouldn't turn off. How do I fix that?

Lights intermittent can be caused by switch or relay. Try swapping the Low Beam relay with another similar relay (horn relay is a good choice) to see if that resolves it. These relays are in the Junction Block--may be under the hood or in the car but not in the big box by the battery). If this doesn't fix it, the problem is likely the headlamp switch.

Horn coming on is usually caused by a broken switch or stripped wire insulation inside the steering column. You would usually have to take the steering wheel off to fix it, and this requires special tools; however, if the problem happens to be under the steering column shroud, you may be able to fix it without taking off the steering wheel. Take the shroud off and see if you can follow the black/red horn wire. Follow it as far as you can to check for stripped insulation contact with any metal. If you lights switch is bad, you can also change that while you have the shroud off.

Please let me know if you have questions.

Hello :) I am playing god of war for the ps2 I am on the place in athons where you have to save the orical hanging from a rope you have 2 statues to move around and I can not figure out how to save her do...

You need to stack the statues on top of each other, first off. The push or pull them to the top right of your screen. You will see a notch on the floor to the left side, your left, of the roof in the middle of the area. Push statues into notch, jump onto the roof, there is a smaller roof behind it to help, and then jump onto the top of your statue stack. From there, jump to the vines and a short video will play. Good luck.

Animals - None
Enemies - Army, Klap-Trap, Necky, Zinger, Kritter
Bonus Levels - Three
Animal Tokens - Enguarde, Expresso

Slowly walk ahead until you see the jumping Kritter. Jump on him when you get under the high rope and ride up, jump to the left and use ther barrel to break the wall and enter a bonus level. You have to spell out KONG. The prize is an Expresso token. After exiting, jump off and jump onto the two Kritters. Jump onto the rope. At the top, jump off, pick up the DK barrel and kill the Army with it. Jump onto the rope, and when you get to the top, jump off and you will land on the K
- O -
Run to the right and jump onto the rope. In the middle there is a barrel. Choose Diddy before you pick it up. Jump down and break it into the left wall to enter the bonus level. In this level, you have to spell out NINTENDO. You win a red balloon if you do this. After the bonus level, run right, and kill the army, and jump over the Zinger onto the rope. When you get to the top, jump onto the left rope to avoid the Zinger, then the right, then the left. Jump to the left, and if you want the banana bunch, kill the Necky and jump up there. Go through the small gap, and jump on the Army if you got Donkey. Jump high on the rope and quickly jump to the other side. Walk down the slope and jump on the Kritters. Jump on the first rope, go down a little, jump to the second then quickly jump onto the third tope and into the checkpoint barrel. Jump back down and run to the right, avoiding the two Klap-Traps. When you get on the rope, on the first three ropes, jump immediately to the right. But on the fourth rope, wait and then jump back onto the third rope to reach a bonus level. Go to the far right rope, watch out for the three Zingers. Jump to the right and get the N.
- G -
Take the DK barrel, and throw it on one of the two Zingers. Go above or below, depending which one you hit, the Zinger and jump on the rope, and jump to the left. Take the rope to the top, and then take the six ropes and jump to the left. Then jump the rope and jump to the other side. You should be next to the red arrow now. Jump onto the two down ropes. Always hold up during this section. Hold northwest and northeast depending which rope you are on. When you reach the top, jump over and hit the G. Run to the right and Exit.
