Re: inspiron 1100 monitor
Any of the system LEDs come on when you turn it on?
Can you hear the hard drive spin up?
What was the original problem that lead you to clean the laptop fan?

not very descriptive. If you want premium support from your community, your going to have to be a lot more descriptive. Such as, you turn the Laptop on, you hear it starting up, but the screen remains black. The harddrive lights that usually blink green aren't doing anything. Does it beep? Does it make noise? Is the fan in the back right making a lot of noise?
Possible solutions: RAM needs replacing. Flip the laptop upside down, and unscrew. Remove one stick of RAM. Turn on the laptop. if the problem still exists put ram back in and now take out the other one. Turn back on. If problem still exists keep going down.
If your computer is making loud noises from the fan, you may need to clean it out. The CPU is in the top right corner of the laptop, if it gets to a certain temp, teh PC will simply turn off.
If al else fails, your motherboard is probably failing and the PC isn't salvagable. I use a inspiron 1100 too (so much most keys don't have letters or bumps on them), and the only time this happened was when the ram needed replacing.
When Windows logo disappear on the I-INC, do you still see it on the Laptop monitor?
All laptops have function keys to switch the screen between the external monitor (I-INC) and laptop monitor. On your laptop, it is Fn+F8 key. Press them once and wait for 3 seconds, it will switch the image between 2 monitors (external monitor ONLY, laptop monitor ONLY, and both).
During start-up, do not close the laptop cover. Because it may put your laptop into a stand-by mode and turn off the screen. You need to modify this Power Option setting within the Control Panel.
laptops are very specific about what you can replace parts with. Take it back to where you bought it and ask to exchange for a 14 " If you want to see a bigger picture on that laptop the only way is to plug in an external monitor; in the back there should be a plug for an external monitor. Plug this in to any computer monitor. You will have to adjust the resolution.
