SOURCE: I set temp to 74 and stop at 70 and decresing.

The only thing I can think of other than being just old and worn out is that by design it may not be set to run but so much at a time. Has this always done this since you have had it? It may be needing calibration. One thing you can try is to set it at 2 degrees higher than you want it and then it would shut off at the temp you actually want.

Possible that the sensor is not reacting and so does not set to the data required in the program. Try and see what is the error factor for the switch on and off which will give an indication of the sensor error. If so this must be replaced. otherwise you can use the error to set it likewise., higher or lower.

My newly installed Broan-NuTone attic fan worked fine for two days. Now it wont turn off, even though the temperature has dropped well (40 degrees)below the setting(100 degrees).

Hi. The most likly cause of this type problem is the thermostat. Check the thermostat housing is it hot to the touch, is it close to a heat soarse, suchas, a motor or flu pipe for a water heater. If the thermostat has a adjustable heat range setting try setting it to the lowest setting if this shuts the unit off the calibration of the unit may not be set right. If the unit is new this should be covered under warranty.

Intake brings the air outside into your room, exhaust pushes the air inside your room out.

What setting you use depends on your personal taste of temperatures and the temperature inside vs outside. If you set the thermostat to 72 degrees and it is more than that outside then I would use the exhaust setting. If you set it to 72 degrees, and it is 68 outside but 84 inside then I would set it onto intake to cool the inside air.

Sounds like the variances are not set right. if I am understand you. You set the thermostat to 74 and the heater shuts off at 70? If that is correct then the variances are wrong or you have placed the T stat in a bad location where it is getting heat from a vent, wall where there is a appliance or in a very drafty location

This is the problem you have when you rely on "modern electronics". Suggest you buy a manual 'stat and just turn down the temp at bedtime. Make it cold and use a blanket, that is what we did in the " good 'ole days".

If indeed the program is stopping it you can find out by putting the thermostat temp on a manual hold. Set tstat to a desired temperature then push hold. If all works well then you will need to reset your program to fill your needs
