This would be something I would contact gateway for. They usally post info on their website.

I suggest you take your laptop back to the repair shop and tell them you still have the same problem. There should be a warranty covering the repair for a period.

Y Gateway mx8711 does not write cdr or dvd's it reads them fine but does not write.


Is the WARRANTY on the computer still valid?

Either way, take your computer to a repair shop, and get the "broken" optical drive replaced.

Gateway notebook model MX8711 is freezing up - i get SMART msg that hard drive is bad and needs to be replaced asap - what hard is installed in this model?


Your laptop comes with a 100 gb SATA interface HDD running 5400 rpm. Any SATA interface hard drive will do. Pay a little more and get the speed up to 7200 rpm and you can use any capacity you can afford.

My Gateway MX8711 Notebook PC won't boot up. It will come on and show the Gateway logo and then go to start windows normally? but won't boot up. Goes to blank screen and then nothing..........HELP!!!!!!!


I had bought my Gateway laptop with the extended warranty at Circuit City and was worried that the warranty wouldn't be honored due to them filing for bankruptcy but I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to locate the company (Assurant) who is handling their warranties and they helped me over the phone. They had me re-install my operating system. He wasn't sure why it needed to be re-installed and suggested maybe a corrupt file, etc. Anyhow, I ended up losing all of my files but am just glad to have it fixed.

Take a back up cd, and back your stuff up, then serch for it on your computer when you log on.

MX8711 notebook, no sound


Hello,

Although gateway doesn't provide free phone support for Refurbished models all of the original software can be restored individually from the restore set(assuming you made it) or downloaded for free from gateways website.

If it's simply an issue with the update causing a problem, try re-installing the sigmatel audio driver from the driver and applications DVD you made, or if you didn't make one click the link below and scroll down to the sound section. You can download a fresh copy from there.

Broken screen


Normaly, with warranties if the unit went defective on its own, there should be free service during the warranty period. If the user abuses or breaks the device by any means, then the warranty may be void.

You should ask the dealer or ever who sold you the warranty about the terms and conditions.

In the instrction manual, or the warranty policy sheets, there normaly should be a copy of their policy.

Laptop Gateway mx8711


Gateway laptop is really ****.
I bought Gateway MX8711 in March 2007, after 6 months i use it...the hard disk failed.
Gateway replaced a new Hitachi hard disk for me but not more than 8 months and it failed again.
Gateway told me that i have no more warranty because the repair warranty is only 90 days.
I bought this laptop and use it not more than 2 years, the hard disk was failed twice.
Usually Hard disk manufacturer provided 3 years warranty for the hard disk. The manufacturer year of the hard disk is May 2007....they should able to help because the har disk not more than a year being used...but they don't. This is really bad customer service and not fair to the buyer.
I will not buy any Gateway products anymore....i swear.
