Do you have electronic eye at the base of the door track. sometimes they may have been twisted and will prevent the door from opening. this is a saftey device. make sure they are both pointing at each other. Also check if somethong is blocking the view from the elec eye. this is easier than it sounds. A question for you, does this happen all the time. some times if the sunlite is directly on the elect eye it will not work. stand outside and block the sun from hiting it and it may work. You may want to check if the wires are connected to the elec eyes.

Sounds like the motor has failed. Clicks is the solenoid, buzzing is the windings on the motor trying to move. You can check if the motor turns by hand, and if it does, you need a repair person.

Garage door opener just clicks when we try to open it with the switch

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It will be obvious if it is bad. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor.

I had a lightening strike at my home. Since then, the garage door does not function with wall switch or remotes. when i press the switch, light comes ON on the door opener and i hear a click but nothing...

Well, I don't think that disconnecting the garage door from the garage door opener would affect function.

The lightning strike could have destroyed the circuitry inside the garage door opener, seeing that it won't operate with the wall switch or remotes.

It's likely that a board was fried by the lightning which would render the garage door inoperable.

UNPLUG THE UNIT TO RESET
TRY TO OPERATE MOTOR. IF IT STILL FLASHES 5 TIMES AND THE MOTOR MOVES 5-6 INCHES, CHECK THE RPM SENSOR - A LITTLE CUP ON THE MOTOR SHAFT WITH A SENSOR.
IF MOTOR DOESN'T OPERATE AT ALL MOTOR MAY BE OVERHEATED - WAIT 30 MIN. & TRY AGAIN. IF THE MOTOR STILL DOESN'T MOVE IT IS MOST LIKEKY A BAD CIRCUIT BOARD.

Craftman Garage Door Opener Quit Working.

It could be a bad logic board especially if you have had any electrical storms in the area. I would remove and check the logic board for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board.

Pop open the cover and check for loose wiring. Also check to see if the capacitor is still good that powers the motor.
