The low temperature block the camera and for that reason doesn't work. This is not a battery problem. The trick is that you're supposed to let electronics warm up to room temperature and then some before turning them on. The recommended time is about 6 to 8 hours. The reason for this is that when you take a warm item into cold air moisture can create condensation on the item. This water can cause a short in the electronics. In below freezing weather that condensation can then freeze, so when you bring an item in from freezing cold you need to give the condensation time to melt and then evaporate before turning on the item.
Leave the camera at normal temperature and this will be unblocking the camera.

Does the battery pack plug directly into the camera? wanted to try an alternate power source if possible, if nto are the batteries recharable, if they are recharge the newest one, just to make sure t has a charge. I know you tried 4 batteries but, even though remote, there is a chance they all were dead. Just want to make sure first, was there any condesation on the lense when you got it out of the car or on the bode itself?

The following is from Canon on your model

    Operating Environment

    Working Temperature Range

    32-104°F/0-40°C

    Working Humidity Range

    85% or less
The crucial thing here is what the internal camera mechanics were when you inserted the batteries or battery pack. The mechanical concerns are based on the tolerances for the moving parts. In the above specs you will notice the working range is above 32F. Below this temperature and the mechanical movements will not function, they will freeze or lock up specifically. This can cause the motor to seize and malfunction. At this point once the camera warms up and you power on, the camera goes through a self diagnostic test. This happens each time you power on. In your case the mechanical movements will not cycle and the camera goes into protection mode to keep further damage from occurring.

You will need to take this camera to an authorized canon service store. Any professional camera store can assist you in this if not take the camera in for service themselves.

    Best regards,
    Worldvet

The moisture from being in the cold may have shorted a circuit. leave somewhere warm and dry for a day with no batteries in. If it still does not work it will have to go back for a service.

Took battery out of working camera 4 months ago. Put charged battery in recently, but camera would not turn on. Reset with button but no change.

Do you mean your Nikon D80 battery haven't bean used for 4 months and you store it with no power? If so you battery maybe has been't damaged. Over discharge is heavy damage for Li-ion batteries. And when you store it with no power and for a so long time... You need to store it at 40% charger and at a cool but no cold place. Cold and hot are the killers of Li-ion batteries

Im getting an Error 99 on my EOS-300D Digital Camera when I turn off my YN 465 Speedlite flash gun (still mounted) and then I start shooting manually without the flash. Help please, its a bit annoying, but...

To fix this err99 issue, do the following
1. Turn off the camera. 2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card. 3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes. 4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
If it appears again, then proceed to next steps 1. Turn off the camera. 2. Insert the CF card. 3. Turn on the camera. 4. Format the CF card in the camera.
If you still get the error you should send your product to canon for servicing.

My canon 500d wont turn on. the batteries are newly charged

Check that the battery is inserted in the right direction and that it is making good contact. I found with an earlier model that the lid didn't push the battery far enough down. Inserting a piece of cardboard just under the lid pushed it down to make better contact.

''err 99'' code appearing fairly often recently on Canon Rebel XT

To isolate the cause of the issue, do the following: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert only a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, the camera may be faulty and requires a service. If it does not, then: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.

Does the “ERR 99′ message appear? If so, then the CF card is faulty. Try a different card. If the message does not appear: -

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the gold contacts on the lens by GENTLY rubbing them with a pencil eraser or soft cloth. Keeping the camera face pointing down, also clean the gold contacts on the camera, being careful that you do not let any debris fall into the camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.
5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.
If the “ERR 99′ message only appears when one particular lens is attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.
If you see the “ERR 99′ with a different Canon lens attached, then the camera is faulty and should be serviced.

Canon 40d-used camera sunday-took cf card to store to make pics-

Try cleaning the contacts for the batteries with a pencil eraser. Make sure you hold the camera so the eraser debris falls OUT of the battery compartment as you clean. Also make sure the battery door latches properly, and that the batteries are correctly oriented.

Think you may have bent a card pin. Remove the card and the camera's batteries. Look in the card slot for any bent pins. If you see one, don't fret, it may be fixable. Use a small/skinny jeweler's flat screwdriver to bend the pin back as close as possible (one from the dollar store is fine for this). Take your time and use as much patience as you can muster. Take a breather in between if needed.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just as close as you can get it. When it's there, take your flash card and "SLOWLY" insert it. The card itself should fine-align the pin. Remove the card, and verify that the pin is still straightened. If so, reinsert the card and try it out.

If there are no bent pins in the slot, then the next obvious thing to try is a different CF card.

When I try to charge the battery the light just flashes and the charger does not work.

Hi, I had the same problem!

Had not used my camera for a while so I decided to but my battery on charge, once in the charger the orange light just kept flashing so I left this in "flashing" for a good hour or so.

I removed it and then replaced it, and it was still flashing so I decided to get a new battery (£40!).

I put the new battery on charge over night and it charged great, so I thought I would re-try charging my old one before I sent it away for recycle, and guess what the orange light stopped ON and it was charging!

Not sure what happened here, it was either charge the old for an hour with light flashing and then remove and leave over night and re-try OR insert a good battery to re-set the charger?

But I now have 2 good batteries.

Hope this helps :)

FLASH WONT TURN ON

You can try cleaning the terminals in the battery compartment with a pencil eraser (a good idea in any case). Otherwise, I suspect hidden damage or fault. If not an expensive unit, replace it.
