We suggest that you buy a separate, good-quality hygrometer to determine the actual moisture content of the air in the room you want to control. Then, with a bit of experimentation, you can set the humidistat on the dehumidifier so that it cycles off when it reaches the humidity level you want to maintain.

My dehumidifier does not shut off even after the lowest setting on the humidistat. No water in the bucket.

I have a Kemmore Dehumidifier model 580.53650 and when you plug in the power cord it trips the surge protector breaker on the receptical. The surge protector is ok because my other dehumidifier works fine when I plug it in. I checked the AC power cord and it is OK. I removed the Fan motor and Compressor circuit by disconnecting their wires from the capacitor and I disconnected the AC hot lead (black) from the main Pwb board and it still trips the breaker. It appears the the Capacitor is the problem. Does it make sense that the capacitor would cause this problem?
