Question about Vehicle Security Systems

Remote starter stopped working

The remote starter (I chose 'security system' below as the best match) worked fine all last winter, now that it is getting cold again it is not working right. For a week or so it would only start the car if you were within 10 feet, now the only time it works is if I actually sit inside the car and hold the remote next to the little antenna on the windshield. I have 2 keypads, they both have the same problem.

I tried replacing the batteries in both keypads, and the problem has not got any better. I can start the car with the remote if I'm actually sitting in the vehicle. There has been no other work done on the car since before last winter when the remote starter was working fine.

I don't know the brand of the remote starter, it's an after market and my wife had it installed, she didn't get any instructions etc. Thanks in advance...

Thanks to both of you for getting back to me.

Unfortunately I don't know the make, and I looked up the remote on the web and it's an aftermarket unit.

I did check the antenna wire and it seemed fine, but I tried pushing the antenna back into the houseing because it felt loose. The starter works fine now. With any luck I am all set, but if it acts up again I now know where the problem is.

    Thanks again!

Code Alarm stopped working after truck sat for about a week in cold weather. Batteries are fine, and truck starts with the key with no problem.

Do you know the make and model of the unit? If not can you post a picture of the remote at least? Kinda shooting in the dark here......

when I push the buttons, it doesn't work right away but only keeps blinking. Then after how many tries or a little tapping on it, it works fine

You should try replacing the batteries in the remote. If that doesn't fix your problem then you may have a bad remote.

There are two types of starters for Dodge, if you installed new battery, check to see if the remote start is to ignition module or starter solenoid, then make sure the circuit has not been closed-they go in series circuit!

It is a common problem with factory remote keyless entry (RKE) systems when a remote start system is installed. Many RKEs will not operate when the ignition is powered as the case when engine is running under the control of the remote starter. There is no easy solution to get around this safety feature if you insist on using the factory remote to operate the door locks. The best option is to use the MARS-22 to control you door locks.

If you have a bulldog remote start, you should have it removed right away. I work at best buy, and we will not install these any more because of the problems they cause. You should buy something made by DEI, they cost a little more, but are very well made and come with a lifetime warrenty.

Probably the remotes battery is dead , use a key or something flat to pry open the remote fob , inside is a button cell battery .
