I have a Dell Inspiron 530

The system was purchased 14/12/07.The monitor has just gone into sleep mode and I cannot get it to "wake" despite rebooting.I have done the other obvious things like checking the connections, making sure the monitor works on another desktop. How do I get the monitor out of sleep mode please?

I found the way to fix it was to unplug everything and check every possible connection. Then having checked the monitor worked properly on another computer I still found found that did not work on my pc.In final frustration I called Dell support and they helped me sort it by going through exactly the same process but making sure that all the power had been discharged from the desktop

I have the exact same problem. Is there a solution?

I put the Dell Inspiron 530 in Sleep Mode. Everything shuts down as it should. The blue light on the case blinks and the monitor goes into its standby state. Later I hit any key to bring the PC out of Sleep Mode, but nothing happens. The blue light on the case continues to blink, but nothing happens. I cannot even turn off the PC by hitting the power button, the blue light on the case. I have to cut of my power strip and start up again.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530S, and it exhibited the same symptoms as rguggemos's & Wilburollie's.

I can put it to sleep, but when I try to wake it, it won't. The screen will stay black. I can hear the drives spin up, and the fans go on FULL blast, and the blue power LED stays flashing, but the computer will stay like that - no picture or anything. Then I'd have to press & hold the power button to force it off, then power back on. Not ideal.

The solution that worked for me?! On boot, at the "DELL" logo, hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, go to Power Management, and change the standby mode from S3 to S1. The difference? S3 is a "deeper" sleep, w/ more components powered off, which is better, energy-wise, but it is more difficult to wake from. S1 is a "light" sleep. Give it a shot! Maybe it'll work!

Good luck!

- Mike

Stolen from another forum:

S0 (Working) is lit. The CPU functions in entirety; the conservation of power is on a basis of by-device.

S1 (Sleep). The CPU is stopped; The RAM is regenerated; the system functions in reduced power.

S2 (Sleep 2) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM is regenerated; the system is in lower mode of the S1.

S3 (Standby) The CPU does not have any power; The RAM regenerates at minimum; the power supply unit is in mode of reduced power. This mode is also called “Save to RAM”.

S4 (Hibernate). All is powered off, but the memory was saved like temporary file on the hard drive. This mode is called “Save to disk”.

S5 (Off) Everything is shutdown. Means you need a full reboot.

Try just unplugging the montor from the power. Then attach the monitor to a computer that is already powered on and booted up before you reconnect the power to the monitor.

I am having the exact same problem as m6soto. I ran diagnostics and it told me my hard drive was bad. I replaced the hard drive and am still having the same problem. I am going to try his solution and will post back here if it works so others will know what to do.

I changed my power management setting to s1 like m6soto suggested and as far as I can tell it has solved my problem. I was able to successfully wake my computer from sleep mode for the first time in over a month. Thanks m6soto! It is very much appreciated..

Dell Inspiron 530s Desktop fan motor keeps running

It\'s NOT the fan. Check the power save settings on the computer ITSELF. Check your BIOS settings as well. Inspirons ALL do the same thing with waking up.

My monitor seems to be stuck in sleep mode

This happens when there is no communication with video card. Check cables, re-seat video card, make sure monitor is set to correct mode. VGA (15pin blue), DVI (white), or HDMI.

My dell inspiron E1405 screen turns off by itself it turns on fine but after a couple min. The screen turns off but the laptop is still on

Its going to sleep mode after 5 mins or going to standby if you are not working on it. you can on it by moving mouse or pressing any key on keyboard if it gone to sleep mode .You can press power button to make it on if its gone to standby. To disable this Right click on any empty space on desktop and go to screen saver tab and click on Power button . There in Power Scheme tab , make all options to NEVER and press Apply and OK.Now it will work fine. Options are turnoff monitor, turn off hard disk , System standby , system hibernates etc

How to shut down dell inspiron 530 computer - the button only takes computer to sleep mode

I assume you use Windows Vista.....
In vista the default action of the power button is configured to sleep mode..
So to shutdown the PC you can press "Start - right arrow - right arrow - right arrow - Enter", or you can navigate to the same using the mouse & selecting shutdown from the list besides the lock icon.
You can also change the power button configuration this way goto " Start-Control Panel-System and Maintenance-Power options-change plan settings (under the current plan you are using) - change advanced power settings - Power buttons and lid - Start menu power button" click on settings and select shutdown, apply & save the settings and close this window.
Now you can just click the power button to shutdown your computer.

Sleep mode will not stay on

There is an option called wake-on-LAN that will wake up your PC if some traffic comes into it from the ethernet.  You will want to disable that feature.
You might find it under setup when you boot you computer, or you might also find it under control panel / power.

Sleep Mode Lockup on Dell Inspirion 530 w/ Vista

Try hitting the "Windows" key on your keyboard to bring it out of sleep mode. The "Windows" key is generally found on the bottom row of the keyboard, near the Alt and Ctrl keys, and it has no letters on it, just the Windows logo. That key brings my Windows Vista machines out of sleep mode when other keys won't.

As for the power button, anytime you need to force a computer to turn off, you can press and hold the power button to do so. Usually, you need to hold the power button for 5-10 seconds and it will shut down. Use this option with caution, as it turns the computer off without running through the shutdown process and can cause you to lose data.

Hope this helps.

Cannot get me monitor out of sleep mode, please help?

Hi

Pls check the power management properties in device manager to check if the option to wake the computer from sleep for the keyboard and mouse are enabled.
You may also try to change the power plan or create a new power plan and check if you are able to wake the computer from sleep.
If this problem started a few days back, then you may try to do a system restore.

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.
