HPF and LPF problems

I have just brought a Sony CDXGT828U head unit, it has a LPF but i cant find if it has a HPF i dont think it does, anyway i have a 1000w fly amp powered by a 700w kenwood amp. It used to sound good on my old sony head unit but now i have installed the Sony CDXGT828U i cant find a way of pushing all the bass to the sub using the HPF. Is there a setting i can use to do this with the LPF? Please help. Thanks

It would be best to contact the retailer for the headset and get better assistance for this.

The recommended settings for a mofet car amp 50.4 , theres a few knobs not sure what they should be turned to

The gain knob is used to control how much the volume (output) of the amp increases with each increase in volume on the deck (installed in the dash). This is used to match speakers running of your deck. Other knobs are probably for a crossover (labelled in Hz). This controls what frequencies are passed to the speakers connected to the amp. A Highpass (HPF) crossover passes all frequencies above what the knob is set for. A Lowpass (LPF) pass all frequencies below what the knob is set for. A HPF is typically used when the amp is powering component or full range speakers to keep the ultra low frequencies (anything below 90Hz) from going to theses speakers. A LPF is used when the amp is connected to a sub. Subs dont handle higher frequencies very well.

I've got a 1999 ford expedition with the Mach radio system in it and it does not have any bass playing thru the front or back speakers and i've changed out the factory amp thats in the back where the sub...

does the new amp you have have a hpf setting if so check to see if thats on, turn off the x-over so it will play both lpf and hpf, bass and treble. are all the speakers wired to the amp aswell, this is the only thing that would stop bass other than the head units settings.

When i turned the bass up to high on my head unit my amp cuts out on overprotection, just for a second and them comes back on. why?

go into your settings in the deck by holding down the volume on most models for 10 seconds then change your hpf settings and your lpf settings your bass will sound much better and not cut out. hpf recommended 160......lpf recommended 140.... good luck

I have a pioneer gm-x 304 amp. I want to know what are the lpf-off-hpf switches for< and what sdhould I set the input levels to?

Hello packs6,

The lpf-off-hpf switches control the "low pass" and "high pass" filters. When driving full-range or component speakers the filters are usually operated in the "off" position to send all frequencies to the speakers. When driving a subwoofer, the best position is "lpf". If you have a separate amp to power a subwoofer, this amp can be used just for the high frequencies by putting the switches in "hpf".

Input levels should be adjusted to match your receiver output. You don't want the levels so high that distortion results. But you want it high enough for the amp to be able to produce maximum output. Start at about midrange and adjust the receiver volume to a little higher than a comfortable listening level. Adjust the amp gain (level) counterclockwise until you begin to hear the speakers distort. The turn the control slightly clockwise until the distortion disappears. That's the best setting.

Hope this helps.

What do hpf and lpf switchs do

Hello rwalinske, The abbreviations "hpf" and "lpf" stand for High Pass Filter and Low Pass Filter. They do exactly what their names imply. They allow frequencies above or below a specific setting, while blocking or attentunating frequencies below or above the setting. There's also a "band pass filter" which allows frequencies within a specific range below the high setting and above the low setting. Finally there's a "subsonic" filter which blocks inaudible frequencies below the threshold of hearing. The hpf is generally used in speaker component systems to send the high frequencies to the tweeters. The lpf is normally used with subwoofer systems and is set to send frequencies below the setting to the subwoofer. While most amps will amplify a wide range of frequencies, they are more efficient when the range is limited depending on their intended use. For example, a typical 2-channel amp might have a frequency response of 20-20KHz. When used to drive a set of normal speakers, you would not use either the lpf or the hpf, but simply let it send all frequencies to the speakers. But when used to drive a subwoofer, and operated in "bridged" mode, the amp can put all of it's amplifying power into frequencies than can be used by a subwoofer if the lpf switch is turned on. Hope this helps.

Hooking up a new 8" woofer speaker to my amplifier

If I'm reading the amp manual right, you should be able to connect the amp in 3 channel mode. To do this:
  • Connect both left door speakers in parallel to Ch A Left.
  • Connect both right door speakers in parallel to Ch A Right.
  • Bridge Ch B and connect it to the new 8" sub.
  • Set the Ch A LPF/HPF to HPF.
  • Set the Ch B LPF/HPF to LPF.
This should allow you to run all 4 door speakers and the sub from the amp. It will also automatically route non-bass to the door speakers and "only bass" to the sub.

Sony gtx 500 cd deck/ kenwood 8104d tuning

Set your HPF and LPF on the headunit to match the crossover on the kenwood amp.

I have the same amp, it's really not difficult to figure out. Try these settings, For the AMP: Bass Boost: 0 Crossover: 150 Level: 1

Now just go into the menu for your head unit and make sure you set the crossovers to 150 or whatever option you have, just make sure they match.

Simple.
