Question about Operating Systems

Cannot access full factory restore

The option to RESTORE to factory defaults is not available probably due to dammaged files...
The alt + F10 when restarting doesn't work and the empowering technology app doesn't give me access as it should - and so there seems to be no way to access it - seems like I'm cut off from that resource and no doubt, I need to restore my computer.
I wonder what I can do to access the full factory restore without purchasing the $30.00 full factory restore CD....
I would appreciate any valuable tips to fix this if possible...

    Thanks for the tips.
I need to do the restore because I noticed that I cannot access it as I normally can do (probably dammaged files) and also noticed something strange as I verified the system restore panel: it won't allow me to back beyond 2 days... that's strange, I had many, many choices before. And so, with this Acer using Vista home premium, the application (Empowering technology - recovery icon missing) that comes with it no longer allows me to access the factory defaults either...!  It seems strange, but it looks like dammaged files or maybe it's a virus... I'll check this possibility also.

I still think that recovery cd's should be shipped with the computer as it was before. But now with these new machines, they put the full factory restore on a partition and in my case, I can no longer access the option. I know it's not expensive, but I think they should include it with the purchase. Now I have to wait 2 weeks to get it. Or they could have posted a "patch" on their support site that would fix this issue. Anyways, it seems we are not so devoted to our clients these days... (Acer)... I'm sure there could be an easier solution when you need it fast. I would have preferred a "download" on the site which the Empowering technology application and then a simple re-install would set things in order. After that, I could access the factory restore and not need to wait 2 weeks... anyways, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining...!

Somebody told me to format the C drive (OS drive) and reboot the computer and then when there is no OS installed, the factory restore launches... but without this advice from someone who really knows what they are doing, I won't go ahead and try this! Then I'll be 2 weeks in trouble with no computer. At least, now I can run vista satisfactorily.

Open up your Control Panel (in Start menu), click on 'Performance and Maintenance', then in the left-hand column click on 'system restore'. On the system restore screen choose 'Restore my computer to an earlier time' and follow the directions to go back as far as you want.
I'm curious why you need to do this, though. If it's because of a virus, make sure the virus is gone or your problems wilkl just come right back!
I would certainly consider ordering the manufacturer's recovery CD's any way in case the hard drive ever goes bad. It's cheaper than a anew set of 'Windows' CD's. Good Luck!

I reinstalled my dads emachines e4256 with a Vista - had vista before also... after reinstall i came to think of the recovery-partition, and as theres a mismatch in Vista-versions, I would rather go use...

Hi.

Restart the computer and right at the begining of the power-up process for just a short while, an "emachine" screen appears plus a choice of using some function keys. As soon as this screen appears (you have to be fast and ready as the time window is very small) press [Alt]F10 (hold down the "Alt" key and keep pressing and releasing the F10 key) continuously until a screen comes up giving you the choice to factory restore. Just take the option to restore the operating system.
This process wipes all data from the disk, so you will loose any of your files that might be on the hard disk. It is like a full reinstall and can take about an hour. The machine will shut down and restart several times by itself.

Regards.

I'm trying to recover from Backup Disks made when i first got the computer, I've inserted Factory Default disks 1 + 2. Now its asking for the next Disk. Question 1: What is the next Disk to insert?...

Hi,

The recovery disk consist of 2 DVD, the first is the System Disk (this is first disk to insert), once finished loading, it will ask to insert the second CD (Application and Drivers disk), if in case both are not working, then follow the below mentioned steps:

You can restore the computer back to factory default,to do so, follow the below steps: Turn OFF the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding "Alt" key & keep on tapping "F10" key, i.e Alt+f10, it will open the recovery console, select full factory restore and follow onscreen instruction. NOTE: This will erase all the datas on the computer.

You can also place order for a set of Recovery disk by calling Acer Technical support at 1 800 816 2237

I have a Acer Aspire 5745 (CPU: Intel i5 processor 2.5GHz RAM: 2GB OS: Win 7 Home Basic) which is only 2 months old. Yesterday I started a installation setup of a game, when suddenly the system restarted....

Hi, I do apologize for the inconvenience you have been facing. The reason why the laptop does not reboot to Windows even after reinstalling Windows is because the issue is with the hard drive not being recognized the reason for which you get a blinking line on the screen after the Acer logo .In this case I would suggest that if the laptop is under warranty please contact the Acer Technical support and have an order placed for repair.
Thank you for your time and best wishes for your effort.

How to restore fatory settings without the cd acer aspire 5740g windows 7 home premium windows is not booting n auto recovery that is alt+f10 is also not working but the recovery partition still exist

For all Acer Netbooks try to initiate the recovery using Altgr key (righthand side of the space bar) and F10, ie Altgr+F10 as soon as the computer restarts. If the recovery partion is corrupted or do not have the CD. Try the below steps:
No Restore CD / eRecovery / password / ALT + F10 or F10
1 - Recovery of data on the hidden partition PQSERVICE for password
A - Installing the software R-Drive Image to create an image of this partition (this file has the extension. ARC)
B - Always with this software, create a virtual disk logic to see the files
C - From the desktop, go to the newly created virtual disk and find the file aimdrs.dat. The open with the notepad and get the password.
2 - Reactivating the ALT + F10
A - Always on the virtual disk created, find 2 files: mbrwrwin.exe and rtmbr.bin.
B - Copy these 2 files on drive C: \
C - Since the MS-DOS (Pocket PC) to C: \, type the following command: mbrwrwin install rtmbr.bin
D - The function has been reactivated.
3 - Start of Restoration
A - At the start of the PC, go to the set-up to check if the function is well on D2D enabled (normally it is a default setting ... but hey you never know.)
B - Once the audit and that the PC has restarted once the ACER logo appears, simultaneously press ALT + F10 to start the restore utility.
C - When it asks for the password, you need to type one found in the file aimdrs.dat. CAUTION: The keyboard is QWERTY mode so we thought enter his password, but as some letters are reversed, it does not work.
4 - Normally at this stage there ... everything works and restoration is smooth.
Note: If the operating system does not work, it is possible to do this from another PC by connecting the hard drive or USB slave
i found this helped me with exactly the same problem you have on the 7540g aspire laptop use the ALTGR on the right hand side of keyboard not the ALT on the left hand side of the keyboard along with F10 i tried it with just the ALT on the left side nothing happened but when used ALTGR on right side it woeked and reset everything back to factory settings then went to acer site and downloaded missing drivers hope this helps you out

Tough infection keeps returning

Hello.

If the malware is reinfecting your system, you really only have 3 choices: System Restore, Factory Restore or reinstall.

For System Restore, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.

Accessing Factory Restore (restores to the factory settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC), is dependent on your hardware manufacturer. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Follow the prompts.

If still not resolved, you'll probably need to reinstall your operating system.

Hope this helps.
