Question about PC Laptops

1 Answer

RAM compatability I have a Sony VAIO and want to upgrade my RAM a second time. I've already upgraded once and the disc I installed then is a DDR PC2-5300. This time around I consulted Sony.com, which advises that I install a DDR2 PC-3200 400 MHz disc. My question is, does it matter that one disc is a DDR PC2-5300 and the other will be a DDR2 PC-3200? Are they compatible? What is the difference between these two types of disc?

Is it okay then that one of disc is a DDR and the other a DDR2?

The clock speed on the 5300 is higher however when installed with a 3200 the 5300 will "clock down" to the 3200 speed.  They are both compatible in this situation.

the pc2-5300 is ddr2.  When listing the speed for ddr it will just say pc-2100 and so on, pc2-5300 is ddr2.  Also, ddr and ddr2 have the notch in a slightly different location and cannot be installed in the wrong type of slot.  If this helps please rate my solution.  Thanks

Hi,

According to the maintenance manual only 266Mhz Ram can be added to the notebook.
This would be SDRAM.
Hope this helps!!

Kind regards!!!

Upgrading ram on laptop, new ram not recognized.

remove the bios battery for a few seconds...and place it back on ...this will make it see the new ram memory modules...if you are sure they are compatible ..they will work .....in fact ..the ddr1 333 512 M is more that compatible with your system and it will work after you remove the battery ...\ my recommendation is to reinstall a clean operation system after you boot up ...and format the C partition too...this have to be done after memory changes to get the max out of them ..

I am trying to install new RAM on my mother's Sony VAIO PCG-K25 laptop. It had two slots, each with 256MB sticks in them. I replaced these with 512MB sticks, and the computer wouldn't boot. It wouldn't...

make sure they are compatible with your computer, there are alot of electronic stores (circuit city) was the worst at it, but will sell you the wrong ones and say they are backwards compatible.. usually P4 2.8 can run PC2700, some run PC2100, which im hoping yours is PC2700... if so, make sure they are NON-ECC also... i would just get 2 1 gig PC2700 DDR 200pin sticks and stick em in... good luck

1. Has anyone installed 2Gb RAM memory in a Sony PCG-TR3A? please give details of memory specification. 2. Has anyone installed a HDD bigger than 40GB? please give me details of HDD specification.

Hi,
You can only upgrade the memory to 1GB in that model Vaio laptop.

The memory supported is DDR SDRAM which runs at 333MHz. There are 2 memory slots which support 1x512 module in each slot.
I recommend Kingston RAM as the manufacturer.

As for the HDD the laptop supports EIDE (IDE/ATA) hard drive. you can have anything up to 320GB. Seagate are excellent drives as well as Fujitsu.

Regards.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Regards

I want to know if I can upgrade the harddrive and memory

Depending on the memory you already have you can install upto a maximum of 1GB 266MHZ DDR, and cannot see any reason for not being able to upgrade your hardrive for a bigger one, but be aware that the Operating system backup will probably be on a seperate partition on your current hardrive, unless you got an installation cd with your laptop.
