Question about HP Photosmart M547 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Even with new batteries and they go dead before I take 3 pictures

Purchased new April 08, worked fine for aproximately 40 to 60 photos, or aproximately 5 months.

Went to use it and the batteries were dead.

I decided to purchased an "Energizer Charger" model # CHDC7 and replacement Energizer rechargable Batteries Type - AA, 2500mAh.

I installed the new batteries (correctly), and immediately I was able to take 3 photos with in 5 minutes after installing them, and then the battereis were dead, the camera would not work.

I charged up the new batteries per instructions with charger, then reinstalled the batteries in camera, again immediately, I took 4 photos (just trying it out to see if it worked), and again the batteries went dead after the fourth photo was taken.
I recharged, reinstalled again, and was able to take 3 photos..then they were dead again....

I purchased just plain regular AA type batteries, and I can not get the camera to take but only one or two photos..and the batteries are dead..

Point is: Any type battery I use the batteries go dead within 1 to 4 photos and I do have the batteries installed correctly (+ / - ).

The energizer batteries were also installed correctly in the charger (+/-).

Note: I have used the energizer batteries in another camera (Olympus) and the batteries work fine..and I can take many photos.

I have been using the Olympus camera because the Photosmart M547 that I purchased ...is not so smart...it just doesnt work..

Disappointed & Dis-satisified with it completely.

Yes, there is definitely a fault with your camera.  You should be able to return it for a replacement.  I wouldn't experiment too much with batteries in this camera. batteries discharging this quickly are likely to overheat, causing unmentionable catastrophe.

2yrs old. Went thru 3 sets of batteries to get 20 pictures. Dead again. What`s the story?

Sounds like you have a short in the wiring. This is repair shop stuff, or buy a new camera time. Usually, if it is a point and shoot , it is not worth sending for repair as you'll playas much as a new camera is worth. I would look for a new camera, personally. Good luck.

Fuji a350. When I got the camera, it took many many photos(50-100) with alkaline...

Many digital cameras (eg Samsung D53, Nikon 2100) have extremely poor battery life with alkaline batteries (under 20 shots!). Sometimes they won't even take a single picture.

Try using rechargeable batteries or "oxyride" disposable batteries. They perform infinately better.

There could be some internal short which is drianing the battery or your battery cell itself may be bad. Contact vendor if warrantee present.

Bad USB conection?

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Camra dead. M 753

Have you tried cleaning the battery contacts inside the camera? This simple fix (use a fine wire brush, steel wool, or fine sandpaper) clears about 90% of the non-charging and quick shutoff problems with these cameras.

I am having same problem. View is black/blank, digital shutter appears to work but not photo taken. Returning camera to dealer as this appears to be an Olympus manufacturer error.

Flash use "kills battery dead"

The most likely culprit is a several year old battery that is not accepting or holding a sufficient charge. Turning the camera on, and taking a non-flash photo may not tax the battery too much. However, when the flash is called for, the power demand may exceed the battery's ability to deliver enough juice. A new(er) battery is probably your best bet to resolve the problem.

Battery Charging light doesn't flash and battery doesn't charge

I have the same problem. Worked for 3 years and now the battery charges to green but goes dead immediately. I've changed batteries. Its the camera not the batteries. Works fine plugged in. Obviously the cameras are not charging the batteries. Canon must know but I cannot find a fix and warranty is over. I guess buying the expensive camera of the day isnt always assuring you of quality.

Extremely short battery life

do you use alkeline batteries? if yes then they would end in 20-25 shots. Instead, use rechargable batteries of 2500 mah which will last long, very long. On my Cybershot H1, they give aproximate 350 shots with single recharge.

Go for Sony Original Batteries or Uniross brand also works fine.

2300 mah/ 2500 Mah any will work.. :-)
