I am having the same problem and have read the entire manual, including page 18 numerous times. I don't SEE anything on page 18 that indicates how to use the self-timer. Perhaps you could specify exaclty where on page 18 this information is located.
    Thanks

Look on page 18 of the BASIC user guide for instructions on how to use the Self Timer. You will find a link to download the guide about midway down the following page:

Canon s51s when pressing shutter halfway to focus image in viewfinder darkens and resulting photo is dark

Hi Tony, I note you modified your question twice on this problem. I offered some tips for you on the first question so check if that helps.

My tips are based on experience. I believe it is a mater of under-exposure on your pictures and you can correct it if you do a correct combination on the settings. Get hold of a manual of your camera and check all its capabilities. There may be a few features in your camera you are not familiar with yet - so check.

The message 'Naming error' has appeared on the screen and is preventing me taking any photos. Canon S51S

From page 156 of the "Advanced Camera User Guide":

The file name could not be created because there is an image with the same name as the folder that the camera is attempting to create, or the highest possible file number has already been reached. In the Set up menu, set [File Numbering] to [Auto Reset]; alternatively, save all the images you with to retain onto a computer, then reformat the memory card. Please note that formatting will erase all the existing images and other data.

When taking a photo the picture colour change from a bright sunny day to almost dusk on the screen and on the photo as it is visible when downloaded the photo. This is a new problem I've had the camera for...

Check your EV level settings, possibility is that this could be in minus...
Best way is to Set your camera to factory defaults. If it is due to settings then it will solved your problem.... otherwise get it serviced.

Canon PowerShot S51S camera, trying to transfer photos from computer onto the memory card so we can use the card in a digital photo frame? Don't know how to transfer?

you have to use the data cable (which one come with your camera) to store pictures to your XP/Vista PC. Just connect the cable into your camera and PC, your PC detected your camera automatically as an drive, then you can transfer pictures.

I have sony cyber shot 5.1 megapixel camera, and images are not shot clearly there is always a blur image. Please show me the setting of image resolution.

this s bcoz of the image setting...bcoz there s two options one s landscape and portait..if u select landscape more memory will be used and the image clarity will be very gud...and if u choose the other the image clarity will be little bit low...so u jus check the image settings...if each photo holds a memory of 2mb...then the photos clarity will be very gud...if the image memory s of few kbs then the image clarity will be less!!!!

Canon suggest I see a repairer but as the camera is over 1yr old (by 6wks) I will think again. Have reset the camera and will hope for the best!

Thanks but I wont accept your offer at the moment.
