I get a hum thru my speakers when I use the equaliser but when i switch it to bypass the hum disappears

If the eq is an external piece you may have a ground loop. Try a 3 to 2 ac adapter it will eliminate the ground from the eq. test the eq with something else to make sure there is no problem with the eq itself.

The unit is always Humming. I would like to get a schematic to trouble shoot

It hums because it doesn't know the words (I crack me up).

Do you mean physical hum at the unit or audio hum through speakers?

BTW: no make or model number info came through with your post.

Disconnect the input(s) and see if it hums in the absence of an audio source. A bad audio cable shield or unwisely-routed audio cables will allow entrance of unwanted signals from external power sources, magnetic fields, even dimmer-controlled track lights. Sometimes, simply reversing the orientation of the ac power plug can eliminate humming.

Reverse the cables Left to Right to see if it stays with the cable or the input channel. Follow it back to the source, isolating in the same manner. Eventually you will find the entrance point of the hum. Freqquently a cable

Major hummimng noise when sub is connected to receiver.

Is the hum in the receiver-attached speakers or the sub?

Self-powered sub?

How is the sub attached - RCA or speaker-level?

If it hums with the sub attached, unplug the sub's power cord. Differences in AC ground potentials will generate hum across linked devices.

There is a significant high pitch running through my speakers. I checked speaker wires, & plugged in power cord into a different outlet. Still no luck. Any suggestions?

When I have my Yamaha receiver and TV on I hear a distinct buzzing hum noise from my main external speakers What could be causing this sound I have turned all other components off"

Make sure none of the cabling passes near the TV or any source of high electromagnetic fields. If you have track lighting, turn it off.

Get the TV-related audio digitally from the cable box instead of analog via the TV.
