Question about Brother MFC-8840D All-In-One Laser Printer
There was a staple caught in the exit guide on the underside of the top lid. There must be a sensor in this spring loaded guide. I removed it and problem solved.

Sounds like a sticky or bad sensor in the feeder. does it come up and say doc. jam? there is one sensor i had problems with that caused that. it is the sensor that tells when paper is on tray of feeder. if you look where you set paper to feed in, you can see a black lever. its actually mounted on center of tray. it might be sticking down after it feeds last sheet in. it should spring back up freely. if that looks ok, there are a couple of other sensors in feeder, but not that easily accessible.

Sound like paper pick up roller have problem, change it!
