I have a Kyocera Mita CS-2114 copier and had a flashing "replace unit" light. One expert told me about simulation mode, by inputting the number 78. I did that and now get all black copies. To be honest, I also pressed a few other buttons trying to make something happen. I'm sure there is a way to get back to where I was. Can you help?

have a look at the scanner glass especially the thin strip glass this is the glass that is used when passing paper through the document feeder. if you do a copy from the main glass or print to it and no line apears there is probably dirt or tipex or a ink mark on the surfac, the other thing to look at os the drum charge unit as htese can sometimes fail to connesect correctly at the back and not sit tight in the slot this means the drum isnt charged on the edge.. good luck
Is one side lighter then the other side of the copy? Meaning uneven copy darkness? If so, I believe the problem is that one or both sides of the drum cartridge and the developer are not connected correctly. The two parts need to be close togather to make a nice dark copy. This model has a very wierd drum unit and has a defect that one or both side of the drum unit locking tabs break and you get very light or blank copies. It's some what coastly to replace the whole unit... That would be a worse case.... If it is just on one side you might be able to push on the cover on the side that is light. If the copies come out better. One side is broken..I would fold up some paper and make a wedge to push the catridges closer. Good Luck
if you replace drum meanwhile you have to replace developer too, after you replace then you have to simulated follow these steps;
1, power off,hold down"print"&"stop/clear" key while you turn on.
2,press"stop/clear" key within 2 second.
3,enter 60, press print,pess "'stop/clear" key
4,enter 73, press print, enter000000 press print
5, mode 1, enter 03 press print mode 2 & 3 all enter0 press print
Hi! I checked the service manual and those numbers are not error codes.I don't know what they mean, but the black pages could be several things. According to the book, the exposure lamp could be bad. Look to see if it lights up after you push the print button. If it is not on then the lamp is probably blown. If it does light up, then you have something blocking the image from being projected on to the drum. Carefully remove the toner cart., dev. unit, and then the drum unit. Look to see if there is paper jammed anywhere. It also could be the thermal fuse mounted on the lamp assy(scanner) or a bad power board(AVR PCB) or the main circut board. You should call a local service tech for an estimate. If their a decent company they won't charge you for the estimate. Good luck!
turn off the power , hold down "print" &"stop/clear" while turning on power. now within 2 secund, press
'stop/clear" key again, now enter78, press print let it run, will be automatically stop running, when they stop running press "stop/clear" to end the simulation.
• The fixing unit thermistor output voltage does not exceed 0.039 V DC within 7 s after fixing control has started with the fixing temperature remaining below 100°C/212°F (fixing unit thermistor output voltage: 1.71 V DC).
I can provide for you a full service and parts manual from Mita in PDF form for a nominal fee. Contact me for more info here.
