Switch for stovetop light on Goldstar over-the-range microwave

Goldstar (Mod # MV-1310W; June 1999). The lights for the stovetop (on the bottom of the microwave) quit. I replace the two bulbs with new ones and still no light. My assumption is that the switch inside the microwave is bad. Can this be replaced? Is the cost to do this reasonable?

Thanks, bonitaguy

This is caused by a failure in the Sharp solid state relay "chip" (S201DH2). The newer pin-compatible versions don't seem to suffer this weakness. I used the R31HD2 (http://document.sharpsma.com/files/pr21hd22_e.pdf) which should still be available in the US for less than $10 delivered from Mouser or similar retail friendly parts houses.

A simple repair for someone with the tools and basic skills for removing and replacing a chip that is soldered to a printed circuit board. If you lack either of these, better to order a replacement board or have it serviced professionally.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please remind me of your full model number) for more information & help.

My Goldstar MV-1310W microwave has sparks flying from the metal plate that's inside on the top.

Microwave ovens do not work well with exposed metal. IF you place uncoated metal in the oven, sparks will occur.
IF the interior of the oven has the metal exposed, it will cause sparking to occur.

There must be NO exposed metal inside a Microwave oven!

We have a Goldstar mv1310w microwave that the lights have quit working on. This is the light over the range that you can turn on while cooking on the stove. We put new bulbs in and I even show voltage on...

mcdevito75 here, It could be the light sockets are dirty from cooking fumes, oil etc, remove power from the sockets and clean them with alcholol and cotton swabs or paper towels etc.

I have a nine year old Goldstar over the Range microwave. It usually works great, however I need to replace the brown circle on the top of the range it sparks and now has a hole in it, I don't want a fire....

I'm just a typical homeowner who just replaced one for an MV-1310W.
Here's the info on the bag sticker:

Hope it helps...
