Make sure that your power supply is ok, I mean to say that check the connction. If it is ok then check that you are giving the actual power input to your hard drive. Don't connct the hard drive again. First check the power supply to the wall is having the same out put that required by the hard drive as input. Let me know the result.

I have a maxtor 300GB hard drive, I formatted it as I used it with my xbox but It only came on with 16GB. I formatted it over night. It finished and now my pc (Vista) doesn't recognise it. Please help.

goto the computer manager.. ie right click the mycomputer icon.. and manage

goto drive management

scan for drives

do you see the drive ???

if not then goto control panel .. system.. and device hardware...

locate the drive in the list of hardware.. use the plus sign on drives

you may need to at this point assign a drive letter .. do that here

The computer suddenly won't read my maxtor ex. hard drive anymore. What should I do?

If u are connecting it on the front usb
Try to connect at the rear usb. If it doesnot work then you have to check in device manager wheather the usb is disabled or not. If it is ok here then go to registry bu typing regedit in run window.

Go to HKLM---System-----Services-----usbstor

in that start value should be 3.

If it is 4 then change it to 3.

I installed from original CD and my computer running Vista does not find maxtor ll external HD. Is it compatable with Vista? why does it not find the drive?

Start "Device Manager".
Make sure that the USB devices are "ready" and "enabled".
Then, connect the external USB device.

Can you try the Maxtor external device in some *OTHER* notebook?
If it does not work, then the Maxtor device has a problem.

Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Hi, you may want to try connecting it by USB if you're currently using firewire or the other way around and see if it works. If this fails, you are probably better off using diagnostics by Seagate @ http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=7f4e19e0babfd010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD&locale=en-US#. Try to use the Troubleshooting or FAQ or if you feel comfortable using their utilities, download SeaTools. Hope this be of help to you. Good luck.
