Ok, after reading i noticed that the computer cant find anything, not even the keyboard which is why f1 doesnt do anything, none of the controllers are registering, im beginng to think the mainboard in the laptop is dead. the main thing is the cmos error, usually when that happens the battery for the cmos has died, but even if we put a new battery in there is the possibility the keyboard wont work......so the first thing is to replace the battery, not the laptop battery but a small watch battery inside the laptop, are you able to do this yourself? if not can you take it to someone who can? The CMOS checksum error is the first problem thats on my mind.

oh, also, does it have a external keyboard plug somewhere so you can hook up a different keyboard? If you can try that and hit f1 on another keyboard....see if we can get into the setup.

Dell laptop won't reboot can't remember password

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

Windows Advanced Options Menu

Please select an option:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode

Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice

select safe mode with command prompt

Click start run type cmd press Enter

black screen should open DOS mode

this will vary depending on your operating system

type in net user username

For eg. If you want to change administrator password , type net user Administrator

It will prompt you to enter the new password.

Enter the new password and the password is changed

if this fails you will need to

Select safe mode with networking to download

you could download all of these or just one save them to a usb drive for later use if one fails to remove the password

Laptop won'y start up has non-system disk or disk error

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard diskhas failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty.First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

My Dell Inspiron 1525 will not start up all the way. It was fine last night but all I get now is a black screen the the mouse showing. I can't turn it off unless I hold down the power button. I don't know...

boot computer when it first starts up push F8 for advance menu. in advance menu select last known good configuration. hit enter . if the computer ges to desk top do a system restore . to before the issue started. if this fails you will need the windows disk to do a system repair. your configuration may be corrupted.

Gateway Laptop

This is either an operating system failure or hard drive failure. Start by reloading a fresh operating system (Vista) with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any problems during or after the install, then it's the hard drive and will need to be replaced.
