Kenmore 44102 has stopped sudsing

I have a kenmore 44102 front loader.....recently i have noticed that there are no suds when the washer is running.......the appliance man came today, and told me that it's because i don't use an "he" detergent....I told him that i've been using the same detergent for 5 years now and never had a problem until now.....well, he charged me $39 and left.....i went out and bought some "he" detergent...and it didn't make any difference...I still can't see suds...plus my clothes smell dirty when the cycle is complete..........can you tell me what's happening please?

Thanks so much for getting back with me....as I am NOT mechanically inclined, I will print this and give it to my husband, so he can try it. It just doesn't seem right that all of a sudden my usual detergent doesn't work. So I will try what you said....THANKS!!!!

Nancy this is a hard one. The first thing I would do is check how hard your water is. The harder the incoming water, the less suds. I believe your model starts with a 417. front loader and I assume that the detergent is being dissolved in the disp. tray. On this model, most of the water will be under the basket while agitating. Now, your drain from the tub has a filter and if it full of lint and debris, it could be restricting the drain, leaving dirty water in the tub. You would have to remove the lower panel and check the tub filter. This is located in the tubing coming down from the tub going to the trap and pump. I will attach a photo for you. You can also run the washer empty with hot water. Add 2 cups of bleach. After it starts agitating, stop it and let it sit for 2 hours. Then resume the wash and let it finish. See if the dirty smell goes away. Catriver..post back

I hope your model is a 417, it did not specify in the post. On some models the main drain from the tub to the pump have a filter in it. These can be a real pain to remove and put back on. Make sure you have plenty of time on your hands.

LED says SUD

Indicates "too much suds". Be sure to use only detergent with "HE" on label. Regular detergent sudses too much in a front load. Also, be sure to not use too much.

Your washer is designed to use a TINY amount of water. This conserves water and takes less energy to heat the water. Since it is so little water used any amount above a teaspoonful of detergent will reek havoc with the delicate controls on the machine. F21 Long drain Possible cause: Clogged filter, clogged/failed pump.82f0c42.jpg Sud= Suds lock detergent overdose. Too much detergent, the wrong stuff, added to the wrong compartment, you gotta use HE soap and you gotta use the correct amount. You get that computer thinking suds is in there and the machine is gonna go into a tailspin. Because of the low amount of water a9be475.jpg
used in HE machines, it is important
to use an HE detergent (low sudsing)
which is specially formulated to work
best under these conditions. The two
most important considerations
of a front loading washer are suds
control and soil concentration.
First, the tumbling action in an
HE machine generates
more suds than a top loader.
Tumbling the clothes in and out of the
water breaks the water surface
causing air to be trapped in the solution,
creating suds or foam. Multiple problems
can occur from oversudsing, such as
flooding from suds overflowing out of
the machine, formation of a suds cushion
during the tumbling action which reduces
mechanical energy, and “suds lock” which prevents
the machine from effectively spinning out the
water. In the situation of suds lock, the
machine trys to FIX the foaming problema by
stopping the cycle momentarily to allow
the suds to dissipate and then adding cold
water. This routine the machine goes
through to correct for over-sudsing results
in loss of energy and water savings and
can significantly lengthen the cycle time
(sometimes by as much as 2x). HE detergents
prevent over-sudsing and allow for
better rinsing of suds. HE detergent matters in
soil management also. Though HE washers
use about 1/3 of the water of a
top loader, the concentration of soil in the
load is much higher due to the larger
loads. To handle the higher amount of
soil, many HE detergents are specially
formulated with soil suspending ingredients
to prevent soil from re-depositing
onto clothes. Only use detergent with HE marked on it.
Use the correct amount.
The technical data sheet along with that
pesky clogged pump is located behind the
toe kick panel; remove the screws under the
bottom front edge of the washer. Tip the appliance
back to get to them screws. With the screws
removed, the panel will comes down and off.

—Run the unit through a Rinse/Spin cycle.
—Run a Normal cycle without adding any detergent.
This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged
or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump,
pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).5c0674d.jpg
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.ec9f016.jpg

Suds will not spin out. What can I do?

This machine is designed to use HE detergent which is low sudsing if used in the right amount. If the wrong detergent or too much is used sudsing and possibly an error code of SUDS may occur.

You can run a rinse/spin cycle to help clear the suds, you might have to run this cycle several times until the suds are gone.

If the machine is locked out and will not allow you to start a cycle, try unplugging the machine for 30 seconds then plugging back in. Turn the power on and push cancel/drain. This should let you take the clothes out and start the rinse/spin clean out.

Once you have removed all the suds I would recommend running a cleaner such as smelly washer or Affresh through the machine to remove any hidden residue from the excess soap.

Always use HE detergent in a front loader

hi my name is joyce
you have to many suds in machin's pump you have to reduce the amount of suds that are in pump, use 1 tsp of oil where you put your powders and run cycle with no clothers in washer, this will get rid of the suds. first unplug washer from wall for 60 secounds and replug back up. set for normal wash and use the oil only. if this does not work you will have to call service tech. remember to always use he detergent it is low sudsing. all front loaders need this detergent.

thanks

If you are using the recommended HE (High Efficiency) soap, you will not see alot of sudsing, this is normal. The washing action is very different than the top load machines. Excessive sudsing will cause issues with this machines operation.

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

Suds Suds Suds

The SUDS fault indicator is caused by using too much detergent, or the wrong type of detergent. The Kenmore Elite front loaders were designed to use HE type detergent only. When the washers first came out, manufacturers originally made the claim that you could use regular detergent if you used less of it. The manufacturers later retracted that claim because there were a lot of problems with over-sudsing. If you are not using HE detergent, you need to be. In the mean time run your machine with no load with hot water to clear the drum and drain lines of any soap residue. You may have to do this a couple of times to clear the problem. I hope this helps.
