Question about Victor APOLLO 2800 Tripod

1 Answer

Tripod problem I am using a very old video camera on an Apollo tripod to videotape my students. The camera is not stable on the tripod. I will set it and it slowly slides down and looks like it could fall off of the tripod. How can I tighten it?

If you twist the panning arm on most tripods this usually locks the position.

Is there a Carbon fibre small compact with splitter

Carolyn
-If you are looking for a compact light weight (CF) tripod for video...., that is going to be...., stable & durable (for use with a smaller video camera or a DSLR) & with a mid-level spreader...., I have some bad news for you. They do not exist!!!!!
-You can get a number of tripods that meet some of these requirements..., but not all!!!
-No fear....., it is still possible to get a tripod that is small, light, repairable and with a higher weight capacity and better durability than either of the Manfrotto tripods you mentioned..., but they will not use a mid-level spreader!!!

-Questions for you...., the manfrotto #055CXB has a column that terminates with a flat plate & a 3/8-16" thread. The Manfrotto # MTV502AM tripod has a 75mm bowl mount. Do you use a video head with a flat base or with a 'bowl'?
-If your head has a flat base consider looking at CF tripods from brands such as Sirui (#N2204 or #N3204)..., great value tripod from China..., or products from Gitzo or Really Right Stuff...., (superior products...., and your grandkids will be using them..., but pricey)!!!!
-If your head uses a 75mm bowl mount get the Miller #1501 tripod...., stupidly strong and well supported.

-Bottom line..., with light to mid weight cameras, if you go with a good quality spreaderless tripod that uses 'rotary locks' vs 'quick release' locks...., the leg mechanisms are so superior that you will find that you will get less flex than most tripods with spreaders. They will also be smaller, lighter and allow you to shoot far closer to the ground!!!

Go t a shop that has a good selection of quality tripods and test for leg twist..., you will be converted!!! (note: to test this leg flex..., extend the legs & grab hold of (2) of the tubes near the top 'crown' and then try to move the legs to the left then right...., many will exibit significant flex at the joints!!!!

The tripod legs on my manfrotto 3433 slip. the clamping apparatus doesn't have enough grip and just the weight of my video camera is enough to make the legs start sliding down. I see an allen socket...

Hi toolroom347,

There are different clips on the tripod which allow you to adjust the settings for a firmer grip, you also need to extent the gap between the legs of the tripod for a firmer grip, this will help you to set the optimal settings for your tripod which will be fair enough to carry the weight of your camera.

Also a simple solution to stop this slip problem is to carry a small piece of cloth which has guide good grip or a rubber material and then place your camera on it , this will work excellent for a firmer grip.
This has definitely worked for me.

Hope this helps you as well...:)

I JUST PICKED UP A TG-P60T TRIPOD IN A BACKPACK

you can hang your camera bag from it so the light weight tripod has more mass attached to it so it is more stable.

My 17-70 sigma lens is shaking while I'm taking videos on tripod!

Turn off the image stabilization (OS) feature of the lens. This is intended to combat camera shake when handholding the camera. It should not be used on a tripod or any other stable platform.

I need the camera mount to use with my Ambico V-0540 tripod

T-mount is the correct term.  Ebay, if you go that direction has some.  The other alternative is B & H Photo Video.

I want to buy shoulder pads of md-9000 (panasonic mini-dv format camera) from where i can buy that. i am from india

I suggest you use lightweight tripod instead of shoulder pads. Shooting stance using lcd monitor is very different from shooting stance using old cameras. connect the camera to the tripod and rest the tripod feet in you waist(Bind the tripod feet together), getting a clear view of lcd monitor. it is like carrying a flag pole when marching. using old shooting stance will only make you appear a crossed eye videographer!![:0)
