Question about Canon Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I have a Canon Powershot A550 and I recently dropped it on a night out. Since then, now matter how many times I have changed the batteries to fresh Alkaline batteries, the camera tells me to "change the batteries" when I turn it on and then switches itself off. Please can you help me?

The internal connection is damaged or circuit board is damaged . You try to tap on the sides of camera and check whether the message is disappeared .

Also possibility that battery contact is damaged so try giving power to camera through power adapter . If this works then you need to replace the battery holder .

If your problem still continues then you need to take to service center to get it repaired .

Thanks for using Fixya

What's your problem?canon powershot a550 does not power on.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

How to remove flat battery from canon power shot A550

Look at the little door labeled CR1220 in this picture. Pry it open with your fingernail, and take the battery down to your local drugstore to buy a replacement (should be around $3).. Note that W-mart for some reason is expensive for the common CR1220 battery compared to retail drug stores.

The camera is on when you are trying to take a picture everything is ok but when you press to take the picture the flash comes one but it never snaps the picture.

One review of this excellent camera said the flash takes a long time to recharge after each shot. Could be you need a freshly charged battery, or that you have inadvertently made a special unfamiliar setting such as long exposure or something? Just guessing.

Low battery all the time

this is not a good signal. you can make this prove. clean the internal camera contact with a specific contact spray and one cotton fioc
ore you can use normal denaturated alcohol. this is one possibilty. if you dont have any betterment. its probably that the camera have a eletronic defekt. this is not so uncommon with old camera. the camera have internal fuse the works not good and gives this problem. motherboard defekt. good luck i hope for you that is only a dirty contact faulty.

A550 date/time problem

Open up your battery door, and you'll notice another tiny door labeled "CR1220". Pry open that door with your fingernails, and you'll find a little button watch battery that keeps the time settings for your camera. It's time for a new battery. Take that little battery down to your local drug store (Walgreens or Rite-Aid). Should only cost about $4. Note that Walmart is more expensive for these type of batteries, and drug stores are usually cheaper (I know, it's hard to believe).

My camera says "Change the Batteries" no matter what I put in. Newly charged rechargeable or new reg ones. Please help me before Christmas.

I have the same problem with my A550. Remove the batteries when not in use. Put them back only when you want to take photos to stop it from draining your batteries.

Lens error message Canon Powershot A550

Canon A550 and A560 have the same body and most of the internal parts, including lens assembly are the same. Canon won't sell individual parts within the lens assembly. There could be two possiblities. One is (unlikely) that the lens assembly components have been knocked off from their position. The other is that because of a knock, or dropping the camera, the gears in the gearbox of the lens assembly are broken. These gears are the same as the ones in A530/A540, and are available from ebay for $12.50 including shipping. Checkout my site for how to open up the camera and the lens assembly to replace these:

http://pkrobot.freehostia.com/MiscElectronics2.htm

For A550 and A560, if you take it to the professional repair shop, it might not be cost effective, since it might cost around $90. Canon does not sell gears, so they might have to replace the entire lens assembly. The new camera is available these days for around $140.
