After shipping the Wii from WI to MN vis USPS, discs are ejected immediately. The laser blinks on and all else seems to be working. I will try the DVD cleaner as suggested.

    wii system not reading disc.

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try
another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem
is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read
error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide,
that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It
also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a
kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide..

The wii is just like any DVD player and can suffer from the lens over the laser getting obstructions or dust covering it, making it hard for the wii to read a DVD. It's a good idea to go to even a simple dollar store and buy a DVD cleaning kit. Because the Wii isn't manufactured for you to get easy access to the lens cover, it is important to buy a cleaning kit that has a small DVD with a brush attached to it. There is a solution that usually comes with this kit. Use just a few drops of the solution and then put it in the player. Eject it and do it again like two more times to assure that you cet all of the dust removed. There are mulitple places you can get a cleaning kit.
I have placed a link below if you don't want to leave your house to have amazon send you one.
http://www.amazon.com/Memorex-CD-DVD-Player-Laser-Lens-Cleaner/dp/B00008EM7U/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1229107725&sr=8-1
Though any radio shack or walmart for that matter will have this in the electronics section.

IF this doesn't solve the problem, some times getting a can of condensed air and spraying it in your player will help.

THere is a possibility that the laser has gone out on your player or the internal power supply for it has died, but it is unlikely. Most of these gaming systems are all on one central power supply and wouldn't even power on if that were the case.

If the cleaning part works, you might want to think about where you are storing your wii and find a more dust free environment for it. (DO you smoke near it? If so, don't. SMoking is bad for you anyway, ummmka )Keep in mind there is a vent on the bottom of the wii that needs to be able to **** air in it and that can not be covered. ALthough it would reduce the amount of dust in it, it would also burn up the unit in a short time.

The Wii will not read the disc

"Unable to read disc" error happened today for the first time on my Wii. I positioned it horizontally and tapped on the top while it was reading a disc and it started the game. This temporary solution might bring you immediate, but probably not long lasting satisfaction.

Unable to read wii discs

I had the same problem, I take it you have a modded wii(chipped), if you use a backup disc it is of a lower quality then original discs, the wii gets read errors without you noticing and tries to read those disc areas again sometimes suceeding and the gaming goes on, sometimes it fails, and a disc read error occurs. Over time the dvd assembly will take some damage it will loose it rigidity it once had and the wii stops reading discs. The problem gets worse if you have standing up, so first thing si to flip it down and try. Otherwise you (or someone you trust) will have to open the wii and adjust the lens sled so it wont flap as much up and down. Hope this helps..
