Question about Sansui VRDVD4005 DVD Player/VCR

Open Question

Dvd/vhs combo progressive scan vrdvd4001ac

The component works when you slide a vhs tape, however, the tracking is not working? I go into the menu, and it doesn't work out there either. I thought this player had auto tracking. We played a few VHS videos and all the same. The controller has a feature that shows TRCK/Video, so I assume that its for fixing the tracking. Please help. Thank you.

SOURCE: Video no audio

It may be a hook up problem as this unit has seperate jacks for dvd player. Try using the the out jacks labeled dvd/vcr (or vcr/dvd) on back of unit.

There are no such things as 8 track movies or tapes. You either have Beta , VHS or 8mm cartridge and those machines are hard to find these days in working order. The only other cartridge is U matic bu they are no way near a 8 track size tape.

Picture bounces up and down

All new VCR's are auto tracking however, you should be able to manually track it using your remote, or there are a few reasons that the auto track can fail, the tape may have worn or ragged edges which means that the control head cannot get a clean reading, the control head may itself need cleaning or the tape path requires adjustments, adjusting the guides really needs to be done by a technician as a reference tape is used, or that the heads are low and a good video signal cannot be obtained to gain a reference point....Phil

Sound but no picture

first you will need to take a tooth pic and lightly clean the creases in the head , then use a cotton tip with cleaning fluid on it and wipe the head down , then if it gets to where you can see it again you may also have to adjust the tape pull pins for the tracking
if those don't work then the head is bad or there is a bad component

Vhs tapes recorded to DVD+R's

try forwarding the tape to the end and then rewind to the start again, this can help to seat the tape correctly on the spindle . the audio track part of the tape is in a specific region on the tape so misalignment may be the issue with those cassettes.

also try to press the tracking up and down when playing the video

Video tape is stuck in recorder

My tape was stuck too. Easy to retrieve, here's how...

Unscrew the five screws. (Two in the front sides, three in the back)

Slide the lid back, then lift it off.

You'll see the "track" where the VHS tapes move forward, then down. Place a finger on each side of the track, and gently glide the tape back up and then forward, manually ejecting the tape.

Slide the lid back on.

***** in the screws.

(Now if only the other issues this device seems to have were that easy!)

Blue Screen

Could be dirty heads if you have a dry head cleaner tape try it (Maxell and RCA make ok tapes to try for ~:30-1min) ALSO:
There is a delay in the time you adjust the tracking and
the results being visable on the screen on this unit,
I suspect the tracking is adjusted off center. It takes some getting used to the way this deck's tracking adjustment works as the VHS video is upconverted to be captured onto the dvd and that is what you see, the upconverted video, fed out to your TV, analog or digital, this unit upconverts everthing to digital even analog channels, there needs to be a noise/blue screen off feature in the menu like my old hitachi VHS deck and my JVC ~$60 deck has now. On analog TV or old tapes it comes in handy for adjusting the tracking/antenna.

On some of the DVD/VCR combo units, the VCR output is only available through the RF jack (channel 3), standard video1.gif (yellow) RCA jack and S-VIDEO jack. If you are using the Component jacks, the DVD side will work but the VCR will not. This is because the quality of video recorded on VHS tapes is so much lower than component quality video.
Thank you for rating this solution.
