Question about Whirlpool GS6NBEXR Side by Side Refrigerator
Lost all of my food in the freezer during Hurricane Ike. I believe some popsicles melted and ran down through the vent. There is a strong, sickly sweet smell coming from the outside of the refrigerator. It is not all of the time but when it happens, you can't stand to stay in the kitchen. Is there a way to get to a drip pan or something to fix this problem. HELP!!
I have recently suffered the same situation do to the latest hurricane. unfortunatly my whirlpool gold model gs6shexmq00 has the filter in the way. after pulling the screws and the filter somewhat out of the way, tubes restrict the filter from actually getting all the way out of the way to remove the tray. (if it can be removed at all, i dont know i didnt get that far) do i continue ripping this thing apart, taking apart tubes from the filter and so on? Side note: there is no water in this tray, there is a completely black disgusting residue with mold on growing on tom. having youngins in the house i need to rid of this asap. please help thanks in advance.

Most refrigerators have a catch basin under the cabinet that is accessible after removal of the trim at the bottom.
This trim grill can have a half-dozen different fasteners on it although most have plastic extensions that are inserted into matching holes in the sheet metal that forms the base of the unit.
Try (gently) lifting the bottom lip of the grill while pulling it outward; if this frees the bottom edge, then angle the grill outward at the bottom and pulling it downward to free the upper edge. On some units there may also be a knob-like section that when turned releases the grill.
You didn't mention brand and model but with these, you should be able to find a downloadable manual on line that would detail how to remove the grill.
Once the grill is out of the way, most catch basins simply are lifted up and pulled out for cleaning and emptying.
To fully rid the fridge of odors, it may be necessary to pour hot (not boiling) water down any drains you see in each compartment several times to flush them. Obviously, the catch basin should be in place when doing this and they can be quite shallow.
