If you type your uniden model number followed by the word manual into Yahoo.com. You will typically get the uniden web page for that manual online.

I have just bought this scanner UBC244CLT and finde that the instruction book is useless, I have been unable to get anywhere with it except to put the time on, the instructions are clear enough for that -...

You are correct regarding the frequencies used by aircraft, but unfortunately your scanner does not cover this range. The UBC244CLT covers 66-87.265, 137-173-995, and 406-512MHz. To receive the aircraft band (108-137MHz) on an economically-priced scanner you will need to purchase the BC370CRS or UBC370CRS.
