Hi,

How do you fix a no sound problem in think pad t30 laptop

I would download the audio driver, and install it.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page?

You will see five Audio files listed.

1) One for Windows NT 4.0
2) One for Windows 98SE, 2000, and XP
3) One for Windows 98 (Not the Special Edition version)
4) One for ADI MIDI driver for Windows NT 4.0
5) The last one for the OS/2 operating system

Matching up what Operating System you have on your ThinkPad, click on
- [ + ] Click here for files - (In blue) under the appropriate operating system listed.

I'm going to use the Audio driver for Windows 98SE, 2000, and XP, as an example;

There are two files listed.
A ReadMe file (Information file), and an audio driver file.
Click on - Audio driver package - in blue.

A small window will come up on the right -
Opening 1ga239ww.exe
Click on Save File.

Another small window will come up on the left.
In the heading at the top of this window, tells you where the file is going to download to.

For Windows XP;
It may have Desktop, or My Documents, or Downloads, in the wording.

Desktop:
The file will be on your desktop screen

My Documents:
Click on Start, then on My Documents

Downloads:
Click on Start, then My Documents. DOUBLE-click on Downloads

[ Win Vista and Win7 it's Desktop, or Documents, or Downloads.
Click on the Windows logo button, then Documents.
Or Windows logo button, Documents, then double-click on Downloads ]

When you see the file name { 1ga239ww.exe } Double-click on it.

Follow the easy instructions of the Installation Wizard.
(Essentially just click on Next, Next, and Finish, at the bottom.
Windows knows the proper place to put the file)

Also make sure you don't have your sound set on Mute.
(Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices > Adjust the system volume )

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

joecoolvette

Here is the HP website for your product. Start with the version of windows that you have and download the latest software and drivers based upon that version. I am fairly sure that may be the problem.

Try the following:
  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. Type regedit
  3. Click OK.

Note: If the registry editor fails to open the threat may have modified the registry to prevent access to the registry editor. Security Response has developed a tool to resolve this problem. Download and run this tool, and then continue with the removal.
  4. Navigate to and delete the following entries:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\"dc2k5" = "C:\WINDOWS\SVIQ.EXE"
